Ah beautiful movie! Best love story type movie for sure...very trippy. Jim Carrey does an excellant job in my opinion.

This movie was OVERRATED! That's right and so was I heart Huckabees. Pseudo-intellectual rubbish.
Seriously, please tell me some thoughts that these films have provoked in you? I'm especially curious about Spotless.

Yeah,
I don't mean to be DOWN on these films, I just think they ARE NOT what everyone makes them out to be. I always got the impression that this was the type of a movie a person would mention if they wanted to seem sophisticated, without really being so.
But then again, I could just be a prick..

lol but when jim carey is hiding under the table as pseudo little kid that scenes kinda cool. i dunno the jumping into memories hiding into different areas of the brain essentially is kinda cool although i dont believe the feasibility of the movie at all as in the methods of the procedure.

Oh dude, don't worry about my opinion, I could be a total dick.
Also, that scene is hilarious. I would consider both films comedies actually.

Well I say its an amazing movie. Film isn't about trying to look sophisticated. It had a great story to tell and very good cinematography. The director did an amazing job. The acting was equally as great.
I love this movie

I suppose someone could comeup with some sort of device that could erase certain memories one day....
I've thought maybe there would be some memories I'd like to get rid of....but at the same time I'm not so sure

interesting....my sister and I were just talking about it, we decided we'd only get rid of a memory if it was extremely disturbing, like going to war, or watching something horrific happen.

I know what you mean It's a great movie...
I always get a little choked up a bit at that part where:
<SPOILER!>
After he tries to hide away memories of her, because he realizes it is a mistake to erase his memories of her... They are at his only remaining memory of her, the first night they met, and he's walking out the door, and he says something like "I didn't stay... I ran..." and then she's like "Let's pretend you did stay..." and he comes back to the doorway and is all like "I love you" as the world from his memory is disintegrating in front of his eyes and it all fades away...
</SPOILER!>
I dunno, that scene in particular just has a massive effect on me... One of the few movies that evokes that sorta emotion in me.
Its very well done
In response to a few of the other posts... If this technology was actually available to selectively remove memories... I don't think I would ever participate... All of our experiences, both good and bad, help shape us into the individual we are... Bad experiences can evoke positive changes in ones life, and in this particular situation, one can learn a lot from a past, failed relationship...
I haven't watched it in a few months... maybe I'll have to pop it in...

Very true. There are actually drugs out there being tested for use with war-related trauma, rape victims, and other post-traumatic-stress-disorders to 'erase' memories and keep the psyche healthy.
Sounds like a bad experiment to me.

I have a horrrrrrible memory and constantly loose memories of my past, that i only recall when a friend who was there for said incident brings it up.
its kinda sad actually, yet at the same time somewhat of a blessing, if i remembered certain time periods in my life more clearly, i would be haunted by them to the point where i coudlnt function *cough mexico Cough*

in terms of the thread I'd like to add that I also think Eternal Sunshine is one of the best movies of recent times!

I <3 huckabees was crap. It was utterly boring, scatterbrained, and left me wanting the 2 hrs of my life back.
I loved eternal sunshine tho, it's one of those few movies that even though you've seen it a bunch of times, it always leaves you thinking at the end of it.
I like movies like this, another one of my favorites is 8mm. I know that the film is horribly disturbing, but it's like your brain forgets just how disturbing it is. So after i finish watching it im usually in just shock for a few minutes until i can clear the images from my mind.
Lately it seems the only movies coming out are fluff, i havent been out to the theater to watch a film since last summer.

eternal sunshine wasn't meant to be an intellectual movie i thought? i thought it was supposed to be a romantic movie for real poeple. i think it accomplished that very well, and completely validated jim carrey as an actor at the same time.
i heart huckabee's was good. its very hard to pull of that kind of subject matter and it did it. those type of movies are often boring to me because philosophy is old hat.
i'd like to add my own critism: donnie darko was teh ghey. what donnie darko was supposed to be culturally, "chumscrubber" (a movie) actually is.

I just watched this movie for the first time a few nights ago and really liked it. I like Jim Carey in the more serious roles such as this. I couldn't find the movie at Blockbuster at first until I was told to look in the comdy section. WTF it's not a comedy!
