today i tried testing out the 100 W aquarium heater i bought at Walmart to see how warm it would get my terrarium. it's 8 inches long wth no switches, just a plug. i put it in a glass vase with about 1 1/2 quarts of cold water so that its totally submerged except for the very top, and plugged it in. the little red light on it came on for about 1 minute and then it shut off. the directions say to leave it in the water 15 minutes before turning it on, and i did that also with the same results. i even made sure that it wasnt touching the glass except for the rubber suction cups. does anybody own one of these? i'm pretty sure i am using it right, the damn thing just wont stay on.

I think the light comes on when its on. They have a built in thermostat, so maybe the temperature it is suppose to maintain is already achieved. If this is the case, that little glass might not supply enough heat to the fruiting chamber. Your counting on the water in the glass omitting heat into the chamber. Maybe a bigger container of water with more surface area would provide more heat for the chamber. Just thoughts. I don't use artificial heat. L8rs.

make sure there isn't just a cap on top that you over-looked. would be quite ignotant of the company that made that heater to: a) hardwire the thermostat to one specific temp. b) not tell you (via the box or instructions) what that specific temp is. hopefully you just missed that little cap that controls the thermostat setting...=) -fos-

I agree look for the turny thing aka knob. If it has really quit, walmart has the best return policy of any store I know.
