Increase in LSD, mushroom use
By Clare Masters
31jul06

RETRO drugs such as LSD and magic mushrooms are making a dangerous comeback, according to drug experts who warn recreational use of hallucinogenic drugs is on the rise.

School students in particular are at risk from the revival of the '60s substances with LSD at as little as $10 and mushrooms growing in backyards.

Sixty-four per cent of users surveyed had used LSD and three in four males aged over 14 had used mushrooms.

National Drugs and Alcohol Research Centre spokesman Paul Dillon said use of LSD and mushrooms was rising.

"They have been rising in the past couple of years and people are using it different ways, for example soaking sugar cubes in LSD. That drug also attracts a younger group because it is a very cheap drug," he said.

The latest NDARC report showed LSD was one of the most popular drugs used by regular ecstasy users in the past six months, with 32 per cent of users taking the drug, second only to cocaine which was 41 per cent.

The report profiled almost 1000 regular ecstasy users across Australia and found most had used LSD at age 18 with 64 per cent having used it. The rise in the use of magic mushrooms could be traced to users mistakenly believing they were safe because they grew naturally.

"When we give anti-drugs messages like 'it's chemical, you don't know what they put into it' sometimes you have a backlash with users," Mr Dillon said.

"Drugs users think, 'Well chemicals are bad for me so I'll use something natural,' but we know that natural does not necessarily mean safer. Sometimes it can be far more potent."

Flashbacks associated with LSD and magic mushrooms can be dangerous or even fatal, with the drugs often triggering a lifelong problem. A number of deaths have been associated with users picking the wrong strain of mushroom.

What kind of bullshit is that?

We can all admit people who just go popping mushrooms with little fore knowledge can end up dead, but that article is bogus on so many levels.

I think it's the same 64%.  Also, users is not defined, so it comes off as 64% of the 100% of people who used these drugs, used these drugs.

I too was under the impression that flash backs where B/S. anybody know for sure?

I attended a 14 week drug counseling program and I saw a large amount of propaganda being touted as fact, Flashbacks, Marijuana being physicaly addictive, alot of others that are in my stack of notes in my file cabinet. It is truly sad I am paying off a $2800 bill to this counseling center yes thats $200 a session 14 sessions. And for what? propaganda!? I played along and acted like " I had no idea this stuff was so bad." You have to if you act out you will be reported to probation, and trust me thats the last thing you want to do.

Anyway kids trip on it is safe when used properly. Remember cut away not towards yourself. Stop at the STop sign and red light. Naw they should ban knives, and cars cause they are dangerous. And if your going to make some money get a Bug detector learn how to use it because the last thing you want to do is get the wire worn on you. $500 dollar wire/bug detector sure beats $7500 in lawyer fees and years of probation trust me!!!

In Australia, yes it is. The typical is $20 a hit, $25 or even $30 if your buying from a money hungry idiot.

Our prices are alot higher than that of the US.

Increase in vehicle use
By Stu Pidigenda
31jul06

STYLISH vehicles such as Ford Mustangs and Mitsubishi Eclipses are making a dangerous comeback, according to vehicle experts who warn recreational use of vehicles is on the rise.

School students in particular are at risk from the revival of interest '60's cars with vehicles such as the Ford Mustang selling at low used-car prices.

Sixty-four percent of users surveyed had used a sports car and three in four males aged over 14 had used an SUV.

National Vehicle Research Centre spokesman Jackass McGraff said use of sports cars and high-powered SUVs was rising.

"They have been rising in the past couple of years and people are using it different ways, for example driving their sports cars on the weekend. That vehicle class attracts a younger group because they all seem to have rich-ass parents," he said.

The latest FUKCGOV report showed sports cars were one of the most popular vehicles used by regular station wagon users in the past six months, with 32 per cent of users using the vehicle, second only to Mom's minivan which was 41 per cent.

The report profiled almost 1000 regular station wagon users across Australia and found most had used sports cars at age 18 with 64 per cent having used it. The rise in the use of SUVs could be traced to users mistakenly believing they were safe because they were bulkier and had more safety features.

"When we give anti-vehicle messages like 'it's mechanical, you don't know what they put into it' sometimes you have a backlash with users," Mr. JACKASS said.

"Vehicle users think, 'Well mechanical things are bad for me so I'll use something non-mechanical,' but we know that non-mechanical does not necessarily mean safer. Sometimes it can be far more dangerous."

Accidents associated with sports cars and SUVs can be dangerous or even fatal, with the vehicles often triggering a lifelong problem. A number of deaths have been associated with users picking the wrong brand of SUV.

...

I don't even know if that makes sense, but it was fun.

I guess you should believe they're safe... just because they are? instead of because they're natural?

Guys, I was walking down the street the other day, and then everything started getting very weird and I became disoriented.. And blacked out.. When I came to, I was in the hospital. The nurse told me I was extremely lucky.. She said I had a very violent flashback attack, and almost died. I will never do mushrooms or LSD again!! Instead, I say to them *GO BACK TO THE SIXTIES!!!*

It's more likely you will be injured by a car or a doctor than from ingesting home grown magic mushrooms. Propagandists are stupid because they speak from ignorance. I've done acid a few times. I've never had any flashbacks. My Uncle did it a billion times and he's a little crazy but he's also a Vietnam Vet. And he's also very intelligent so that alon can sometimes make people seem a little crazy. Anyway, I don't recommend using LSD. It's unnatural IMO. Stick with the things of the earth. You won't consume any strick9 from MM's.

How can LSD usage be on the rise when one of the biggest manufactorors was busted like five years ago. Less LSD means less usage, or am I missing something.

I went to st thomas and camped out ontop of the island... Despite my entire family being poor all my life, the land is priceless.
I was chased by haitians in the main city charlotte amalie when my girlfriend and I got some cocaine for free in a bar and mixed it with alcohol, to form a stronger drug. With such confidence at 2am, we walked the 4-5 or so miles down to the beach where the african slaves lie like lions waiting on tourist prey.

The war isen't on drugs... the war is on the causes that influence people to abuse drugs. drug-abuse is a by-product of the system and much like radioactive waste occurs from utilizing nuclear power, drug addicts with drug-problems will need to be properly disposed of, like the decaying radioactive waste produced from nuclear energy. -i2ancid

I second that with regard to 3/4 of males over 14 using mushrooms - what bullshit! I wish I could've found somebody selling good mushrooms at that age. That would've been great. But realistically I didn't try acid till 16 and mushrooms I first tried at 18. It's probably for the better.

I might believe that if it said 1/2 of males over 18. That, I think, would be at least a little closer to the truth.

Filling up dropper bottles in his lab in heaven for all his homies up there.

Australia has the most ignorant media in the world when it comes to drugs.  They are more backward and blatantly WRONG than any other country I read articles/reports from.  Yet their usage of substances is so high and penalties aren't bad.

This world sucks sometimes  :frown:

PROPAGANDA AT IT'S BEST!!! but yes flashbacks are real, but they are NOT dangerous!!!! any memory can reocur in the brain. So flashbacks are as normal as the happy feelings you get when you think about a good childhood memory.
