Fruits of the Sacred Garden

I haven't been posting much in the last week or so, but I have been out hunting a few times. I found all these mushrooms at a nearby state park I like to call my Sacred Garden.
There were quite a few species of amanita growing there.

This tiny mushroom was only about an inch high. [Amanita flaviconia maybe]
I haven't got the first clue what these LBMs are, but there were thousands of them.

These pretty boletes were also popping up along the paths.

A few deadly Amanitas.

A few edible Amanitas?

I'm not to sure about this guy.

I'm also not sure about these berries. the birds did not seem to be interested, so I'm guessing they are poisonous.

Two kinds of coral. I have never before encountered the first species.

I had never before encountered these small red cups either. The biggest one is only about 1/2 a centimeter across.
I think this thing might be one of the cheese ploypores. It felt like cheese.

Witch's Hat [Hygrocybe conica]

A few Russulas, the little one on the end was tiny, growing from a moss covered rock.

A few Old Men [Strobilomyces floccopus]

Some lobsters [Hypomyces lactifluorum]

White Hot Milky [Lactarius deceptivus]. When the book said these things were hot, I was thinking Jalapeno hot so gave it a try. They are more like chemical burn hot!

A few pretty wild flowers.

A parasitic flower. Indian pipes [ Monotropa uniflora ]
And of course, the chanterelles!

Hopefully these will hold up well in the freezer.

How very curious. I had never seen anything quite like this before, so I checked Wikipedia:
Quote:
Unlike most plants, it is white and does not contain chlorophyll. Instead of generating energy from sunlight, it is parasitic, more specifically a myco-heterotroph. Its hosts are certain fungi that are mycorrhizal with trees, meaning it ultimately gets its energy from photosynthetic trees. The complex relationship that allows this plant to grow also makes propagation difficult. Since it is not dependent on sunlight to grow, it can grow in very dark environments where other small photosynthetic plants could not.
Nature never ceases to amaze me.

Nice finds
Have you ever tried any Hygrocybes Dan?
Hygrocybe pratensis & Hygrocybe coccinea grow in profusion here and are apparently pretty good edibles.

Nice pictures! Thanks for sharing. I've seen those Indian pipes before, in North Georgia, and couldn't decide if they were plant or fungus. Now I know...

Nice score, and nice pics Dan
And those flowers are really cool, I see them all over, and it's neat to understand why they are white.

Excellent photos! I have a few photos lying around of Indian Pipe as well. One of my favorite "wild flowers", if that's what you want to call it.
Native Americans called it "death plant". Whether that's a reference to it's ghostly appearance, or it's edibility, I don't know, nor am I brave enough to try.

Definitely a key ingredient to complete the circle of late-summer nature snooping! Indian pipes usually start showing up in sometime in July, and last through August here in Pennsylvania.

I have heard that Indian pipes have some entheogenic value.Whether this is true or not,I do not know.
Beautiful pictures.
