Ultra violet lights like that are already used to steralize in labs and medical facilities.

I didn't mean it as spam. I just thought it could be used in some way to help with prep of spawn and bulk substraight.

that'd be interesting to test along side a bunch of LC's.
i don't exactly have 100 bills to blow on something like that, but it'd be an interesting thing to see for sure.

Regardless of how well filtered/clean your water is, we sterilize to protect our mycelium against the 'food' we mix into the water which is usually grain based, therefore harboring bacterial endospores.

the food is, in the case of LC, any combination of sugars that the mycelium could thrive on. with a 4% - 5% by weight add of something like Karo or honey, I'm curious if that would eliminate the bacterias contains solely in the LC mixture. I'm feeling that it'd do absolutely nothing for grains. to much penetration required for something like that (UV Based) to penetrate anywhere below the surface. that's what PCing is all about... getting to the core of the grain, and killing those endospores buried deep within. the success I've had with just PCing the jars before filling with LC solution has been more than worth wasting 100 dollars better spent on other aspects of my hobby.

guess it's one of those 'good in theory' kind of things.
