hello, i was wondering if anyone could i.d these mushrooms for me, i took these pictures a day after a big thunderstorm, in Simcoe, Ontario, there where hundreds of piles just like this in this field. i didn't take a spore sample but ill go back and do that and update this if that is required, thank you for your time.

I would say Coprinus micaceus (Inky Cap).

I agree. Definitely some type of coprinus. micaceus is as good a guess as any with only pictures to go by. Not active. Maybe edible if you have nothing else to eat and you're starving (although some people actually enjoy micaceus).
