Does anyone grow this herb or have any firsthand experience with it? I am thinking about ordering some seeds, but would like to know if it will be worthwhile.

I am growing Leonotis nepetifolia right now. It's supposedly a little more potent and faster to flower than the regular Dagga. It is grown very easily, in any half-decent soil. Sow it and water like any other garden plant. It's definately a worthwhile grow. My plants are small (under 10 inches) and the dried leaves produce effects that rival any product I've ever sampled from a vendor. This is one of those plants where freshness proves to be key, or elese you're left with harsh, non-active smoke. I could even sell you some seeds (have tons of them) of this strain, and can vouche for their great viability. I've got live plants I could sell as well. Let me know if you'd be interested.

Marihuanilla, Wild Dagga and Klip Dagga all supposedly contain just leuronine. In my opinion if this is the case then klip dagga contains much more leuronine than the others as it is wonderful material especially used as a base for other smoking mixtures or smoked 10 minutes AFTER weed. I find this puts me in a nice dreamy state with vivid flowing CEVs of its own specific character, I just have to be careful not to let it drift me off to sleep.

Yeah. I have about 20 or so plants growing. I bought them from seeds of change, but they look more like nepetifolia now, so i'm not complaining. I also have 3 marihuanilla plants. they are easy to grow, but I haven't tried them yet because they are still young. I put them in some miracle grow soil in about a quarter inch and they popped up in about 5 days. That was maybe 15 or 20 days ago and now they are 4 inches high.

I got a clone of a Leonotis leonurus about 5 months ago, It's now pruned out and is a huge 2.-3ft bush filling up a fair share of its shared bed. Grows great in heat with organics, very easy going, it hasn't flowered yet, or shown signs of pre-flowering, but nonetheless it is a fun grow already.

Yeah I had some plants going, but i lost em when i moved.
theres even this huge plant downtown where i used to live, fuckin monster
heres one of mine b4 it died of frost.

heres that monster

its pointless smoking the leafs, its better made into a tea. 1/4ounce dried leaf into 2 cups tea makes for a lovely night. the leafs can also be balled up into a bitter quid that will leave u feeling relaxed and euphoric.
the flowers are the only part that should be smoked as they arent as harsh, and much less needs to be smoked to feel any effects.
While the effects remind me of cannabis in a way, they kind have a "dull" effect on your mood and thinking.

Smoked 3 grams of lion's tail just the flowers and felt nothing.
Not worth it IMO but only have tried it that one time.

CEV's huh? can you describe them. can you take it farther with a heavy dose of the tea?

Do you have anymore pictures of it in the wild?

not rly, but trust me its not hard to tell if its dagga or not, ive really not seen many flowers that look that way, with the big bulb and tubular orange flowers extending from every hexagonal slot each one is born from on the bulb.

well if u search google images for leonotis, you will get a result of mixed plants, leonotis leonuri, leonotis naepetefolia etc. leonotis leonuri has longer, thicker leafs, that somewhat resemble yerba santa (closest i can think of right now), with the same cones (balls that sprout flowers) and orange tubular flowers. the naepetifolia specie has leaves that remind me of especialy of catnip, but could be compared to many mints. with again the same flower structure, though the cones may be larger. naepetifolia may also appear more vine-like in growth with a smooth "square" structured stem (like the orange mint and salvia d). while leonuri specie has very thick woody stems.
hope that helps you some anewway.

From many of the pictures I've found on the web, it looks like L. leonurus and L. nepetifolia have differently shaped calices.
On the left, the L. nepetifolia calyx, which is sharp (and in my experience, quite painful.) Right, L. leonurus calyx. Can anyone who has grown both species confirm this difference? I grew L. nepetifolia (that I thought until now were leonurus) for the first time this summer. Right now they're all about 10-12 feet tall and pretty much done flowering. Haven't tried them yet though.

well ive found the naepetifolia calyx to break off with sharp thorny spears. yes naepetifolia appear much bigger and rounder. I have a few pods of them sitting right next to me actualy. The leonuri species I had back in my old town was more of a woody tree-like plant, and the pods of calyxs llooked much more condensed, these seem so free in the breeze in spacing.

How does it look when Leonotis set seed? For most of the flowers I harvested, I waited until they wilted on their own and then gently pulled them out. Alot of the calices are now turning brown, but the ones I've checked don't seem to have seeds inside of them.
