Again a question,

Is magnesium realy that bad?
i have here two diffrent kinds off lime,
one is with seaweedlime and inside is 54% magnesiumlime.
the other bag is nomal lime but with 15% magnesium oxyde.

Is this bad?

Thanks in advance,
Paddo

In Agaricus cultivation high magnesium are omited. I don?t know if it is the same for P. cubensis.

Try it and report your findings.

bought my lime at Wolfe Nursery...hydrated lime (Ca(OH)2)

for it's purpose i'd just make sure it's hydrated. non-hydrated (quicklime, Calcium Oxide CaO) will suck the moisture out of your casing and your fruiting chamber.

if i'm not mistaken, the Ca(OH)2 is just there to react with any excess acid that turns up in the casing. if MgO doesn't harm the little fungi, it shouldn't hinder the lime doing it's job. unfortunatly, i seem to have read somewhere that dolomitic (hydrated lime with high MgO content) shouldn't be used due to it "burning" the shroomies.

if ya wanna read up on lime yourself, here's a LINK

none of that is proven correct, just my educated assumptions...

> i'd just make sure it's hydrated.

I would offer the opposite advice.  Hydrated lime can easily take the PH of a casing well above 8.0 which is about as high as you want to go for cubensis.

> is just there to react with any excess acid that turns up in the casing.

It both helps raise the PH (low PH is acidic, 7 is neutral, high is basic) of the peat, which is acidic, and also helps buffer against acidic metabolites released by the mycelium.  More or less what you said, I guess.
