Psylocybe species?

i dont have any pics, but i was wondering what else grows on cow poo. i know that P. cubensis does, but im not sure what else.
i ask because at the local cow feild, which i have been searching all summer with no success, has recently been pinning up some interesting finds. the look like they may be cubies, but they dont bruise blue, and they appear to be more like a shaggy mane in the shape of the cap and all around shaggyness. im still not sure because nne of them have yet matured, but any help would be appreciated.
oh, and i saw on the interenet somewhere a list of all psylocybe-containing species. i've not seen it since, so if anyone has links, awesome.
thnx, nobhdy

Many other species of mushroom grow from cow or horse manure. As far as active mushrooms that grow from manure and can be found in TN? Hmmmm, I do not think that Copelandia species are local to your area, though you may find similar looking, yet inactive Panaeolus species growing from manure. Panaeolus subbalteatus is an active species and is fairly universal, and can be found on fertilized grass/lawns or even in cow/horse pastures among the grass. They also take to hay, so look around any old bails of hay left out to rot. You won't find P. subbalteatus growing directly from the poop.
There are other active mushrooms familiar to your area, but you will have to venture beyond pastures to find them.
Happy Hunting!

It doesn't sound like a Psilocybe to me.. pins are no good for ID's either most of the time.
There are some species of Coprinus that grow on manure too.. it almost sounds like one, but you need to pick mature specimens.

There are no shrooms growing on manure which have a shaggy mane kind of stalk as you describe.
wtihout an image to go by it is impossible for anyone to tell what you have found.
Coprinus,. some Conocybes, Panaeolus, Annellarias and some Psilocybes grow on manure.

Do Chlorophyllum molydibites (spelling) grow in Tennessee. They have a sort of shaggy type cap, dont they?
They are poisonous. Next time you find those, take a spore print, outdoors. Don't bring them into your house or anything. If they have a green spore print, then you should beware of that species of mushroom. Extremely toxic.

Probably.. they don't usually grow straight from manure though.

Why do you suggest leaving the mushrooms outdoors?? I have brought tons of green gills in my room to stab with pencils...

Well, actually I have no experience with them, but have heard that they can get pretty gross and stuff.
What you do with mushrooms is your business. I was just making a suggestion, based on posts I've read.
So you stab them with pencils, eh? Get pretty boring down there?

actually, i havce done mushies with green spore prints and even ate afterwards...no biggie.
i went and checked them again, and the more i see them, the more i think shaggy mane...
also, they are growing all over all the patties that i see, so i have collected all the piles with pins and put them into a group. it looks really cool seeing all those mushrooms growing in one spot, then i marked the spot with bright orange tape on a stick. its ok, because you have to swim across a river to get to th feild, and my spot is the most remote from the farmers house, so, to my knowlege, me andmy shrooming friend are the only ones who have been there.....and cows..... obviously, the river makes it hard to take pictures, but i will try the plastic bag treatment....and the shaggy-ness on them is actually more of a powdery lint. it covers the stalk and cap completely.
i will try to check them tomorrow, but the girlfriend is visiting from michigan, so......yeahhh.
