I don't see any reason as to why you couldn't. You can freeze coffee grounds and use them to make coffee later so theres no reason why not.

You can freeze coffee grinds to keep them from molding, or simply lay them out to dry. Don't use them to make casing though or it will contaminate within a few days. Coffee grinds are a substrate material. RR

Hey RR I am seeing posts where people are putting coffee grounds into the casing mix. No matter what it will mold?

Coffee grounds mold extremely easily.

I wouldn't recommend it in casings. I used to use it at ten percent by volume, but the rate of contamination was higher so I stopped. RR

RR, do you mean you used to use it in your substrate at 10%? i always get confused if people are talking about substrate or casing layer.

people use it in their substrate for ph levels but I personally think it's a minor detail.

lol, so your saying they'll mold in the freezer? his question wasnt whether or not they mold easily but rather will they be ok if frozen untill needed.

no it molds easily and that's why it's never used in a casing layer.
As I understand it coffee grounds are used for a nitrogen booster most always in coir substrates, not to alter PH. In fact if your coffee is any good the grinds should have a relatively neutral PH when your finished (not that an acidic one is good anyway).

... ..... It was in regards to RR's first post; if you use them as a casing layer... Jesus. I know how to use coffee grounds.

Thank you. LOL. I made the newb/uneducated mistake of leaving them in the fridge for like 3-4 months before using them. Surprisingly enough, out of 3 casings with those coffee grounds, only one contammed. And I don't even think it was green mold. I think it was cobweb. Meh. Needless to say, I threw the rest away and dried the stuff that was good. Before I use it though, I am gonna pasteurize the shit out of it. But, I just picked up about 15 lbs of frresh grounds to day, and am drying them as I type this. So, I may just save my self some headache, and toss the old stuff in my compost bin.
