I have a chance to see it on the big screen in May.

I always wanted to see it.

I'm going to see 2001 tomorrow. It's restored on
70mm film. That's going to be fun.

So, assuming you're a Kubrick fan, would you recommend "Eyes Wide Shut"?
I've got it on DVD but I'm scared to watch it in case it's shit.
The fact that it stars "famous" actors puts me off it you see.
Oooh! Tom Cruise! He's dreamy.
Ooh! Nicole Kidman! She's pretty, and has breasts!
So is it a tailored-for-the-public flick or does it do Kubrick justice is what I want to know...?

I would say it does Kubrick justice but definitely not
one of my favorite films. I had a bit of a
hard time getting past the Cruise/Kidman thing
but enjoyed that obstacle for what it was worth. Interesting
how phony everything seemed (to me). I saw it
on videotape. Yeah, I
recommend it. It's good you have it on dvd.
2001 was really nifty on the big screen! That can ONLY
be appreciated properly on the big screen.

Don't expect much but see it with your eyes
wide open. There are interesting things about it-
sets, cinematography, an odd perspective. It
doesn't compare to the visceral effects of Kubrick's
best work though- "Full Metal Jacket" "A Clockwork Orange"
"2001" etc.. Just my opinion. I definitely want to see "Barry
Lyndon" on the big screen.

I reckon "2001: A Space Odyssey" is the best movie ever made, second to none. Hey, just my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

I can't disagree with you on that Mushy May. I should have ingested
some shrooms before seeing it last friday! Even on 70 mm film the
special effects were flawless. The "optical trip sequence" (when the
astronaut travels through the weird spatial dimension) was especially
crisp (and creepy). It was gaseously gorgeous!
