Have anyone gotten mentally ill by shrooms?

I have never heard about anyone who has gotten mentally ill by shrooms. Is this possible? Does anyone here know about such a case?

you mean like psychosis? it can and does happen with all psychedelics but generally to those who have a genetic predisposition to it

Yes, I know that, but do you know any cases? I guess we all know about Syd Barrett, but that was (maybe) because of LSD, not shrooms.

Probably ain't any I'd say. If anything, shrooms might awaken a pre-existing, or underlying condition. I have never, ever heard of a healthy adult's brain being irrevocably damaged by any psychedelic. Any rumors of such cases are likely prohibitionist propoganda.

i havent heard of any cases personally but im sure they exist.
people seem to think LSD is more harmful or more likely to induce permanent psychosis because they hear about people like Barrett losing their mind after taking loads of acid, truth is they are both very powerful pscyhoactives substances, but LSD was just a LOT more common in the 60's and 70's than mushrooms, hence bad stories about LSD and little information on the negatives of mushrooms.
the point is if one took a population of 10000 or so people, split them up, gave half psilocybin mushrooms and the other half LSD, it seems likely that there would be similar levels of psychosis in both groups, because it has less to do with the drug and more to do with a genetic predisposition for diseases such as schizophrenia.
overall i dont think its something to worry about, even if you do have what seems like a "bad trip" and you feel you will never come down or have gone insane for ever, chances are you will be down in a few hours, many on this board have been there and felt the same way, but ultimately unless there are some serious hereditary mental conditions in your family youll be alright

An experienced voyager will never go insane...
Psychedelics are not a toy. Or, they are a toy, but one that needs to be handled by a serious, experienced enthusiast for the best awesomeness to occur! Trifling with them may have bad results.
And if you're new to psychedelics, just stick with the seriousness part, and the experience part will work itself out in time.

How mentally ill are we talking here? I believe my thought process has been forever changed as a result of shrooms and lsd. Maybe not changed so much as simply intensified. Even at a very young age I questioned reality and the nature of reality. I always had this thought loop of what if nothing existed, then there would be nobody here to know that there was nothing.
I have a passion for Buddhism and theoretical physics, which I believe is a direct result of my trips, combined with underlying psychological tendencies I already had. This does not really prevent me from living a perfectly normal life, even though I may contemplate how "real" a person is after I greet them, or if I am actually sitting here right now. You see even once you attain enlightenment you still continue on with your Earthly existence. Knowing that you are stuck in a game does not change the fact that you are in the game at this moment, so all you can do is play.
To summarize, I am thankful for whatever abstract thoughts I have gained as a result of my trips. I don't think this is the path for everyone though, and someone who is thoroughly grounded in the reality they see before their eyes will probably remain unscathed from hallucinogen usage.

I feel that down the the T, that's a pretty accurate description of what happened with me. Not for everyone but it definitely alters your outlook on things, especially with repeated use. Every time I eat an 8th I get deeper and deeper into the rabbit hole.

I knew somebody, he was a friend, who ate and smoked massive amounts of pot and hash and was fond of LSD. He got lost in his head, he couldn't think in a straight line anymore, his mind was all over the place, as are our minds when we trip.
He had to be taken to a psychiatric hospital, and then to the chronic ward. While hospitalized he began picking and eating random mushrooms in hopes of finding a psychedelic one. One day he picked the wrong mushroom, either by accident or deliberately, and died a horrible agonized death.
This is not hearsay: I have seen this wonderful guy go to smittereens and there was nothing that could be done about it.

How much did he smoke/eat/drop? Did his mind get better after he was to the psychiatric?
I have never had a bad trip, but a friend of mine who was tripping for the first time(I had already tripped many times) was really afraid that her mind wouldnt get back to normal, and that made me think about it, so I made this topic. I spoke to her and told her that it was normal and then she continued to enjoy the trip.

He sometimes was out of it for days, on his account by having eaten quarter to whole ounces of weed or hash. I believe he took single blotters at a time, but I know him to have used 250mcg blotters.

He got transferred to the chronic ward, meaning he didnt regain his sanity and there was nothing that could be done.
Some people lose their minds on psychedelics and never get it back.

We were taught in hebrew school, that if you see the face of god you will go crazy.
I thought this was connected to the idea of "not studying the Kabbala (ZOHAR) until after the age of 40".
presumably when you are crazy, you are no longer that useful to society.
An experience I had last night with salvia could have destroyed my sanity if prolonged to 8 hours, in it, each molecule of brain cheese was a complete self, an utterly self contained mini-me out of something between lucite and that cheezy brain energy.
all were in delight and fear at the magicality of this way of being. this could have been the face of god they were talking about.
he should wipe his lips.
