A dunking strategy: To refridgerate or not to refridgerate?

The question remains unclear to me.
What are your thoughts?
Should a cake be dunked IN the refridgerator or OUT of it
Or mabye a cake should be dunked in COLD water.
Who knows?
Do you?
If so, tell me please.
Thank you.

You dunk in the fridge. The colder temperatures help ward off contams.

I haven't personally dunked, but from what I have read, the fridge seems to be preferred as ^^^ FooManShroom sayeth.

Remember, you're dunking for a minimum of 12 hours. Stagnant water can breed contams. Putting the dunked cakes in the fridge during this time keeps things fresher longer.

Exactly. An alternative that might be easier with larger substrates is to dunk under gently running water. Allow the tray to fill up and run over the sides and down the sink drain. The running water will also help prevent bacteria buildup. RR

i know a fellow that does it like this, does not have a frige to save on electcity. eats fresh out of the garden all the time.
so when a casing is done with a flush, sticks it in a gallon ziploc bag filled with tap water and sets it on the kitchen counter before going to work. then pops it back in the tray and back in the fruiting chamber upon coming home. seems to work fine.
so it does work either way i guess.

If you let your dunk water get warm, you are risking a much higher chance of contams. If you do not use a fridge, change the water every 6-10 hours to keep it somewhat cool. If you are dunking cakes, stick them in the fridge. There's really no reason to take unneeded risks. GL.

+ if you dunk them in the fridge before birthing, you will cold shock them and get a nice pinset faster

Why would you leave a dunking container uncovered? City water supplies generally put enough chlorine or other chemical in the water that it will be fine for 12 hours, if not, bleach or H2O2.

Unless you are specifying non-Cubensis, please don't give old, bad advice.

Ok,if you are so smart, then be kind enough to explain why cold shocking and dunking isnt a good idea?
IMO, dunking and cold shocking does help...

Baltazar, Cold shocking to produce so called "better pinsets" with cubensis is a myth. They require no such thing in wild or indoor cultivation.
The best way to get good pin sets is giving optimal conditions for your cakes/casings to fruit. Shocking them can set back pin times. The only reason i would put my cake or casing in a fridge is to stall the jar or be on the safe side and prevent contam when dunking.
