Heart Palps: A Lifetime of Hell

Everyday, I have heartpalps. It feels like the heart skips a beat, then tries to make up for it. Ive had to give up caffiene and high amounts of sugar, and enthogens as well. After many trips to doctors and emergency rooms, and "event monitors" and halter monitors, Im told time and time again that "Its PERFECTLY normal, and theres nothing the medical sciences can do about it".
How the F CK is having moments of dizziness and rare faintings "PERFECTLY NORMAL"? Sooo, Ive been doing my research, and have found that there are thousands of people suffering the same thing. But, to no avail, we are told that it is something we just have to live with, and that it wont kill us.
I was just posting this to rant (forgive me) and also to see how many people here on the shroomery have to live with this.

I replied to your pm blue, and thanks for your input. I checked it out and I dont really have any of the symptoms listed, besides the fainting.

Your doctor is correct: this isn't that uncommon, isn't (usually) dangerous, and there's nothing that can be done about it.
It's called an arrhythmia - an irregular heart beat. Some arrhythmia's can be life-threatening...but those kind don't usually last very long before more serious heart problems come up.
I started to get palpitations and "skipped beats" about 5-6 years ago. At first it scared the living hell out of me, because I was born with a heart-murmur (though a "benign" one). I went to my doc about it and had a full ECG and Ultrasound done to check out my heart.
They found that I was actually in "excellent cardiac health" and that my heart murmur had, as promised, finally gone away (that usually happens with age, at least with the benign murmurs). My resting pulse is around 57bpm - apparently quite excellent for my age and physical condition.
My doc informed me that the arrhythmia was NOT dangerous and that it would most likely go away in 4-5 years.
It did. I rarely feel any skipped beats or palpitations any more. In fact I can't even remember the last time it happened....and it used to happen several times a day when it first started.
So yeah, if you had a cardiac check-up done and it came back OK...you should be fine. It'll be an annoyance for the next few years, but you will probably grow out of it in time. Most people do.

I have had that from time to time and found it always went away after a few weeks of regular exercise.

I had that BAD in high school. Seriously bad to where I would constantly be feeling my pulse in my neck and my friends would be like "Cut that shit out man, Jesus!" Part of it was drug induced. Part of it was stress, insane mom, foolish thrillseeking/partying.
How old are you? I agree with the other posters that you'll probably grow out of it.

What's your diet like? Also, have you ever tried breathing exercises? Abdominal breathing, drawing breath in and out 'pranically'?

Funny you should mention that. Im naturally an abdominal breather. Until I had this problem, I meditated daily. Now, I cant lose focus due to it. My diet consists primarily of turkey, grilled chicken, and salsa, lol. Im gonna try multi-vitamins and see how that works.

This is probably a coincidence but in high school i ate loads and loads of turkey sandwiches. There was a place called the Pickle Barrel where just a quarter sandwich had like a full pound of turkey almost, and i ate half sandwiches all the time. Of course this was the same period of time as i was having the heart issues.
It wouldn't be a bad idea to broaden the spectrum of foods you're eating, especially vegetables. Maybe you could benefit from eating some steamed chard or something. I also think that certain 'spices' like garlic, ginger and some herbs are really good for this sort of thing because they promote circulation and just get the juices flowing in general. Finding a good consistent source of Omega 3's wouldn't be a bad idea either, like free range eggs(I've read studies that claim factory eggs have a grossly unbalanced omega 6-3 ratio, being too high in the former. Omega 6's should not be sought out as they are plentiful in many foods and can have an inflammatory action in the body in excess.) Fatty fish is another good source, but fish is a bit sketchy anymore with heavy metals and what not. There are other more supplemental sources like flax seed. Also, eating good oils like olive oil and butter, not margarine, would be a good choice.
Sustained exercises like swimming and hiking are really good for this too I think.
Try some new stuff out, I hope this gets better, it probably will. I know how shitty the palps can be.

Ive had the same shit since i was about ten. Every doctor visit (when i had a doctor) they told me something different. At first it was that i was allergic to antihistamines, (active ingredient in my allergy med at the time) so i suffered through my allergies for years,(they dont bother me anymore) then they said i was anemic and had a low white blood cell count... then they said im crazy its in my head... and it would come and go. sometimes i would faint repeatedly within a week and sometimes i would go months without a bit of woozy ness. but every so often i go through a period of the spins. whether it being brought on by heat, exhaustion, sleep deprivation, lack of nutrients, dehydration, stress, or no reason whatsoever. then years later i went to the e.r for an allergic reaction, completely unrelated, and the bastard doctor sees me for 10 mins and tells me i have a heart murmur, then asks if i do meth-amphetamines. that ten mins may have brought me clarity, but i think hes full of it just like the rest. the 400 dollar bill i got months later when my medical was denied.. that was what he was after. so...you aren't alone. [= and it hasn't killed me yet, and Ive pushed every limit.

heres what i did, i quit drugs.
i had them super bad, i mean to the point where my heart was *pounding*. hard.
i was honestly scared. i often saw my heart beat through my shirt, or vibrate the water in a water bottle i was holding or something.
i had convinced myself something was wrong.
now i still see my heart vibrate things im holding and shit on occasion, but i stopped using drugs and it doesnt beat furiously anymore.
it no longer fucks with my to the point of ruining my day or anything.
good luck, lay off the drugs if your using them.

(thanks for the welcome [=) Me and my heart aren't going anywhere, and personally, the increase in drugs have actually coincided with a deacrease in palps, go figure.

My cousine had POTS for a few years. COuldn't really do much of anything -- hardly get up to walk around the house for 10min at a time. She's good to go now, but it took a looooong time. I was unaware it was related to heart palps -- interesting!
On a more heart-palp-releated note: My GF has them about once a month. Said it's been happening her whole life. Doesn't seem bothered by them though. I personally can't imagine what one would feel like.

oooh dammit man, fainting too? I'd go crazy with fear.
Here's some random bits of advice that may help:
-no caffeine/nicotine/alcohol -NO POT -exercise regularly but not heavily -sleep well. Get a good mattress & pillow if you don't. -take a 100% RDI multivitamin/mineral like Centrum every day with a meal. NOT Megavitamins. -take fish oil daily with dinner. If you add up the EPA + DHA of your dose the total number should between 500-1000mg. -make sure you eat enough vegetables to balance out the salt and calcium you get. -stop eating processed food and cook more. -meditate, or at least rest w/o sleep somewhere on the day.

Wasnt for me. Im still dealing with it and the cardiologists say its ok. If I faint I faint-wtf. From what Ive learned tho, if its something serious youd already be dead.

It's calmed down a bit now.
I only get them now if something happens now in stressful situations. At the time I posted in this thread i was having them on the minute. Now it's down to a few times a day.
