Hi wallace,

Those are Grisettes alright, but I'm not certain they are Amanita Vaginata. The brown color makes me think that yours might be A. pachycolea. It doesn't really matter though, both species are edible.

Great photos BTW

Your new Grisettes could be Amanita pseudovaginata, a very similar species named by Hongo.

A possibility for the ones that look like A. pantherina is A. parvipantherina, a species that has been recorded from China.

As for those giant ones, I can't find anything that matches them. Did you ever test the spores to see if they were amyloid? That would help us get them into the correct subgenus, at least. Since you're getting pretty focused on the Amanitas of your area you're finding some odd ones. You should try to contact a professional there to see if they can help. The giant ones look to me like a professional would probably be pretty interested in them.

Happy mushrooming!

I found this mushroom recently in Japan.

It should be Amanita javanica, originally thought to be the Asian version of A. Hemibapha (The North American Caesar's Amanita), but it is now recognized as a distinct species. Like the Caesar's is also edible.

The large mushroom I found laying on the grass. I assume another mycophile had dug it up, and the pins were not far off. Its coloring is similar to A. subjunquillea (poisonous) but javanica has striations on the cap margin.

Unfortunately they are not elegible since they were posted in August of last year.
