I've been picking these little guys in the wild for years and enjoy them in stir fries / Chinese food but I got kicked in the ass today! I've got a nosebleed that just won't stop!!!
Chances are you've had them too if you eat Chinese/Japanese food. They have a similar effect to Warfarin, a drug that prevents blood clotting.

Auricularia auricula is popular in Asian banquet cooking and is believed to have medical benefits, including soothing sore throats. However, it can cause easy bruising, nosebleeds and heavier than normal menstrual bleeding. The condition is dubbed Szechwan restaurant syndrome or Szechwan purpurea. Auricularia auricula collections are highly variable in effect, some producing no inhibition.

Wow, crazy.. I pick and eat all kinds of wild stuff similar to that too. I don't think I've ever tried that species. At least not any that I have picked myself.

Actually, portabellas (Agaricus species) are carcinogenic if eaten raw! Apparently cooking them though breaks down the carcinogens.

I've never had a problem with them before Eris, must be this particular batch I dried out earlier this year...

Have these mushrooms been academically studied for potential pharmacological use?

I'm pretty sure they have, they've been used for hundreds of years! I'll see if I can dig up some more data.

On the odd chance that they haven't, then it would be an excuse for me to buy some robotics and a few glass columns.
Nothing like spending a decade of your life searching for the precise chemical from a fungus that causes anticoagulant properties

Auricularia auricula-judae and its cousin A. polytricha have been used as medicines for many centuries in China, particularly to cure hemorrhoids and strengthen the body, perhaps by stimulating the immune system. It was also sometimes used to treat such widely varying conditions as hemoptysis (spitting up blood), angina (cardiac pain), diarrhea, and warding against gastrointestinal upset.
"Modern" medicine has yielded other secrets from Auricularia. It has been shown to block blood clotting by obstructing the platelets. There have actually been cases of internal bleeding from particularly sensitive people who accidentally ate too much sweet and sour soup combined with stir-fry containing this fungus. There is some evidence that regular ingestion of Auricularia in small doses can be therapeutic in preventing strokes and heart attacks.
Other therapeutic uses of Auricularia from modern medicine include lowering blood cholesterol and triglycerides. There is even some evidence it can play a role in treating diabetes and cancer, and some studies claim it can reverse ageing by increasing SOD activity for DNA repair. However, due to the possibility of anti-fertility effects, this fungus is not recommended for pregnant or lactating women, as well as those intending to conceive. There is also a report of a man who consumed over 250 grams of this fungus who developed a severe "solar dermatitis," making his skin very sensitive to sunlight. Although there is anecdotal information such as this, general side effects are not well documented or expected.

Sounds like an intriguing fungus.
How do they taste? Judging from the picture, they look like they would have a rather soft texture.
Oh, and if you happen to have any alum, you might be able to stop your nosebleed with it. I'd dab a tiny bit on a q-tip and apply it inside the nostrils.
