Question about flushes...
    #5911851 - 07/29/06 12:01 PM (17 years, 7 months ago)

Ive noticed that in some of my flushes i get a good amount of thick good sized mushrooms, and in some i will get a few HUGE mushrooms, and in some flushes i get a LOT of skinny long mushrooms. Is there any way to make them all thick mushrooms? Keep it at a consistency? Thanks all!

Nature of the beast... I'm not even sure if using a master culture or cloned culture would improve the difference between flushes.

It's sort of like piglets, suckling on a sow.

Some get more, some get less.

Some get big, some don't.

That is just the way it goes.

it very well should.
in your tubs, you are probably fruiting several different strains (sub-strains).
not all of them perform at the same level.

with a master isolated culture, you drastically improve flushes.
for one, there are no strains consuming substrate and not fruiting.

aside from that, Tippinthru is correct.
water delivery has a lot to do with it as well.
keep your parameters consistent and correct.
keep your water delivery technique optimal.

you would have to use a cloned strain for consistancy
and
all you growing peramiters must be exactly the same for every tray wich is almost imposible.

Up your FAE. I've noticed with low air exchange, my carpophores are long-stemmed and slender, with smaller proportioned caps. Optimal FAE helps produce thicker, denser fruits.

He's talking about difference BETWEEN flushes... ie: first flush = lots of small, second flush = a few fat meaty weighty ones, third = one huge meaty fucker.

well then if you know what he was talking about, why did you say that genetics would have a lot to do with it?

It's first come first served with the water, therefore, the first flush (if properly hydrated) has all the pins getting a decent amount of water, the second flush, only a handful of pins will find enough water, and the third, sometimes only one shroom will use the water... It was much more to do with the moisture content of your substrate than it does genetics... If you have even the MASTER of all MASTER CULTURES, you will STILL get the whole flush discrepancy... there's no way to avoid it completely! with every flush, nutrients and water disappear with the mushrooms you pick.

Anyways, I think case is closed regardless of what the REASON behind it is... Your flushes will be different every time.

a master culture will give you very similar shrooms,
every time.

with a multi-spore grow, you will get various results,
not just from flush to flush, but even on the same flush.

this is because the substrate is a collection of different strains fruiting, or not fruiting, living together.

with an isolate, you have one strain, and it is fruiting.
there are no inferior fruiting strains to worry about.

yes, if you water delivery sucks, your grow will reflect it.
but having an isolate will dramatically improve your consistency.
the only difference between flushes will be parameter related.

with many strains, you cannot have consistency, just consistent differing results.

have you ever even grown out an isolate?
thought so.

i've got clones in the fridge, if that's close enough. I know that a master culture is a great thing, especially when it comes to consistancy, but it still wont make all your flushes the same, which is what this man is asking about.

Anyways, ribble rabble rickytin tam.

okay, yeah whatever...

how about this...

Dal33tdude12, when you get the HUGE mushrooms on a first flush,
clone them.
do a core biopsy into a liquid culture.
do like 6, for LC can contam quite easily.

Once you learn agar, you can work quicker and easier.

you'll want to clone several fruits and grow out those strains.
not each one will colonize fast, fruit well, and so on.

it takes work and time, but once you do find that one strain that
has all of the characteristics you desire, you are set.
duplicate and store your master culture and it will last a lifetime.

from there, substrate and parameters are the major factors in performance.
give your isolate a good substrate and correct parameters and you'll
have seas of mushrooms to worry about.
consistent mushrooms.
