Questions about lava rock humidification

O.K. I made me a new FC and I am using lava rocks in the bottom and air bubblers to provide FAE. And bubbles. Should the air pump be on a timer or run all the time? My humidity hasn't come up passed 87% yet, and I am wondering about the standing water in the bottom of the FC, i mean it has to be there for this to work right?

yes, there should be standing water. theres a couple variables that could be going wrong...
first, you might not have enough water in there, you need enough to cover the bubble wands/rocks...the average consensus on this is half as much water as lava rocks, by volume.
secondly, you might not have an air pump and/or bubble wands big enough for the size of your chamber...not a problem, an easy fix with a little cash flow.
after that...i could only think of maybe a terrarium that isnt properly sealed to keep the humidity/water vapor inside the box. which, i find this one unlikely, as most people prefer to even have a few holes drilled in the top for added air exchange...so carbon dioxide doesnt build up.
lava rocks, when properly hydrated and given sufficient time to soak up water, will provide a 90%+ humidity.
remember that every time you open to check, open to put things in or take out..etc release humidity into your house. also, good hydrometers arent too hard to come by, but most people dont have one, myself included....just rest assured that if its 90+ in there, its all good for the most part.
