Oven tek, alternative?

I was just wondering if this would work. Take a large pot and boil some water in the bottom of the pot so you have a constant flow of hot air/steam rising, place your jars on a shallow rack inside the pot so it isnt touching the water and carry out inoculation procedures that way. Would that work?

I'd say it's too warm. Just use a cardboard box with seran wrap on top and a whole in each side... voila, still air box

Doubtful. I don't see that creating a very strong updraft. Plus I think the oven tek is flawed to begin with unless you're in a clean room, in which case its a little redundant.

yeah, the oven tek is just circulating unfiltered air, and very slowly too...

yes, and when using the still air box, be careful not to stir up much air... You can make a much better one by using a rubbermaid tub or sterilite tub... That way you can put a rack and water in the bottom... But don't need that sort of precaution if you're just innoculating jars.
Don't forget to sterilize your needle between each jar, you can use alcohol and flaming or either by itself.
Have fun!

Still air, in a confined place, is far better to do that sort of work in.

Yeah, An just go to the grocery store and buy some cleaning glove for about 2-3$.

You just need to seal it good with everything you need inside and spray a little bit of solution of H2O + bleach(very very very little bleach) on every wall and item inside, wait for 15-20 min for the bleach to evaporate and start working.

you don't need to seal it... it's not for handling nerve gas or anthrax :P
Just needs an environment with still air... A lot of people seal their boxes because they're paranoid, but it's definately not neccessary.

i always wear gloves, but I usually wear latex, a lot of people use dishwashing gloves because it looks cool, like you're dismantling a biological weapon or something.

Wow....
I must be the sloppiest person on here, I dont use anything when knocking up jars. I turn off the a/c, wash down the area, spray half a can of lysol all around in the air, wash my hands, flame the needle and go to work.....30+jars, 2 contamed and I am sure it happened while I was flipping them around looking for growth.
Never sterilized my casing layers...no contams Boil water in a pot to sterlize jars...no contams
Maybe I am just fortunate and live in a well insulated house or something.

What general, non-specific area of the States do you live in? Humid or dry?

Yes They are WELL secure. When you use it, you sweat and it may be difficult to take them off/put them on. So it need to be strong enought.
Here's a view form outside and inside. I will probably put more ducktape inside when I'll use it againg.
What i did is i put 2 layer of duck tape. The first being hafl in the glove and hafl on the box. Them i add an other layer over the one on the box. Make it solid, it's better to have more duck tape than not having enought and broking your box while working with it.
And the reason I seal it it's because I like working with A/C running, so since i have a good airflow outside my box, i take no chance.
