Questions regading a casing

Hey everyone.
I had made three casings and two were ready for the fruiting chamber three days before the third. According too someone on these boards it was ok to put in the third a couple of days late.
Well the first two colonized great and the top covered in mycelium very well and even and is now pinning, although more on the sides then I would like it looks like the middles are about to fill in too, is it somewhat normal for the sides to pin before the middle due to the better micro climate??
The other question is now that the first two are pinning the third one is too before completely covering the outer layer with mycelium. should I remove this casing and find something different too put it in until the top colonizes or just let nature run its course and let it pin along with the other two so the next flush will be even thru out the three casings??
Also I know some shrinkage of the casing is normal but mine shrank about an 1/8 inch on the first flush, is that normal or should I give them more water on the next flush?? Yes I did read the pinning guide but near saturation and glistening is a pretty wide range of water delivery so I am thinking maybe I should water them a bit more then I did due too the shrinking....or again is that normal for even the first flush.
Thanks for any help

It doesn't matter if trays all fruit together or not.
It's normal for the substrate to pull away from the sides. As the mycelium consumes the substrate, it gets smaller. It's not just the loss of water, but the actual consumption of the substrate material.
You don't want the casing layer to fully colonize. If it does, it no longer functions as a casing. Remember, it's the uncolonized parts of a casing that you can mist to hydrate the substrate. If it's fully colonized, you lose that ability. RR

Thanks for the reply roger, so I assume my casings are fine providing it isnt overlay which I dont think is the case. I have a fair amount of side pinning but I have noticed more pins coming up in the middle now, just a day or two behind the sides. By the way this is only the second day since actual pinning occured so I assume I should just be pataint and keep the humidty and temp right and provide plenty of FAE and be patiant, right??
Here are some pics of two of the casings, are they over laid or healthy looking??

Also is it possible to look at this pic and tell if the casing is too wet, too dry or just about right?

Correct, that's not overlay. Side pinning is fairly common. It's a lot more humid in that crack between the walls and your substrate. You might try wrinkling up a sheet of wax paper, then flatten it back out and lay on top. That will simulate the effect of the sides, but on the top instead. The wax paper will get waterlogged, so be sure to replace it every second day. Lift it up when you fan, then put it back down. RR

Thanks alot man, I will try some of the wax paper. Should I apply it now or wait until the next flush?
I got some wax paper, I wanna lay it down directly on the casing layer simulating the small gap on the side of the casing correct? Or do I want too drape it across the top of the casing itself?
Thanks for the help man
Other then that everything looks like I am off to a decent start?

Bump for the question regarding the wax paper.
Directly down on the casing layer or draped across the top of the case itself?

directly on top of the casing material. crumpled up and flattened back out. change bi-daily.
