rH and Temp inquiries

Will two inches of wet perlite in an aquarium and occasional misting provide optimum rH for a single 1/2 pint cake. The aquarium walls were all misted up before cake insertion. The temperature is around 70* F I am almost certain that this is not warm enough to fruit (PF RACE) I bought a $10 hygrometer at radioshak (it sucks) but it doesn't seem to get past 85% rH. I always thought that perlite would get to 100% with no hassles thanks, in advance, for any knowledge supplied.

You're good to go. 70 degrees is fine.

If you still have the box, I'd take that hygrometer back and trade up for the $29 remote sensor. They're the bomb and since Radio Shack already has 10 bucks of your money, it will only cost you 19. By the way, I agree, 70 is fine and it sounds like your humidity is too. Be patient and good luck. Free Spore Ring

The lid on the aquarium is a large window screen sheathed in a larger plastic garbage bag. The aluminium frame is not very heavy (as to make a poor seal). I am looking to create a more substantial seal with a better lid. Any good ideas for seeeetting up a good terrarium seal? I can not find plexi-glass anywhere. Where is it that stuff?

Are you talking about the remote sensors for #631030? I have one and 2 sensors and wanted to know how acurate they are in adverse conditions (90%+ humidity).

"the friendy men with the mustashes" that's pretty funny, and true. Plexiglass tends to warp away from humidity. I have big sterlite totes from walmart ($3.44) with a window about the size of a football in the top. A peice of plexiglass is siliconed over the hole. In about a month, the plexiglass warped pulling the silicone loose on one end. I've found that it's best to secure the glass with screws and nuts at each corner so this doesn't occur. I have terrariums set up on a humidifier for cakes and initiniating pinning. Then transfer casings to a perlite only setup for fruiting. I use one of those little osilating desk fans about four times a day to flood the terr. with fresh air. CS from what research I've done, you've got about the best system you can buy for the money. There are some hi-tech monitors that record conditions but they get expensive quick. By the way, how did that other project we talked about a while back work out for you? Just curious. Hope that helps. Free Spore Ring
