Need ID Help **PICS**
    #5909584 - 07/28/06 05:21 PM (17 years, 6 months ago)

well i am really in a hurry, but i found theyse shrooms growing out of a really old pile of cow crap in the middle of a field, on a very sunny, hot, day around 7pm at night.... in Mid-Michigan.

i cannot get a spore print... but the spores look grey, and there was a little milky white substance on them when i picked them, vary from 1-3.5 inches in length....

should i eat them? or wash my hands???

No, don't eat them.. it could be a coprinus species. They are one of the most common dung dwelling mushrooms. Can't see the gills on it though.
It's not an active either way..
You should check the guidelines for how to make complete ID posts.

Possibly Leucocoprinus luteus (bimbaumii). You should wash your hands several times a day, whether you pick awkward mushrooms or not.

Later.

Cow piles are not your prime place to look in michigan. Maybe horse piles for subbs but probabaly not cow patties (cubes don't grow in michigan) . Anyways good luck and keep hunting. I've been hunting since the begginning of the season in michigan with no actives yet. I am still conifident it will all pay off one day soon. Look for these species here in michigan

Michigan
Psilocybe caerulipes
Psilocybe liniformans var. americana
Psilocybe silvatica .
Panaeolus subbalteatus
Conocybe smithii Watling.
Gymnopilus aeruginosus
Gymnopilus luteofolius
Gymnopilus luteus
Gymnopilus validipes

Panaeolus subbalteatus or Psilocybe caerulipes would probably be your best bet your some species of Gymnopilus there's littler information on the other species listed for michigan unfortantly. Good luck
