A few questions regarding a tek...

I want to expand I've been happy with my outdoor patches but they fruit when they want to, not when I want them to. My first indoor grow just wasn't what I was looking for, but I just followed the pf tek. This is the tek i plan to use for my next grow....
rye and casings
First off, Where can i find a heater with controls like that? I really liked that setup.
Secondly, What kind and size of containers are those casings in and where could I find some?
Lastly, are those rye berries? Or are they seeds or something else from rye? Where would be a good place to buy it in bulk..
Oh and does anybody have any modifications they see that would be necessary or better...
Thanks to everyone from the shroomery for their amazing helpful tips and guides... YOU GUYS ROCK!

1. petsmart, petco, ebay, etc. its just a fishtank heater 2. look at your local grocery store. the size escapes me but i found them with no problem. 3. those are rye berries. try a feed store or a healthy food store. i found mine at Whole Foods.
magash's tek is great.

The heater is a submersible type.
Hint, don't go for a small inexpensive one.
Get a 100+ watt, and the highest quality, you can afford.
Frankly, if you live in a climate controlled house.
You don't need an jar incubator like that.
Comfortable room temps (72/78F), on a closet shelf will suffice, to incubate rye, wbs, grain spawn jars.
If there is a feed & seed store in your area. You can often find winter rye, in 50lb bags, for around $16.

One modification I would suggest is the way he does his casing.
He suggests an inch of bottom casing then substrate than an inch of top casing. Well, his casing mix is verm & coir.
Coir is good for bulk spawning to, to basically increase the amount of substrate you have. This is what he was doing, without realizing it. But, unnecessarily mixed quite a bit of verm in.
So if you're going to be including the coir, I'd treat it like a bulk substrate instead, and just mix your colonized rye in with some 100% coir. Then use a casing mix that contains LESS coir, because 50/50 verm/coir is hard to manage. Look for the regular 50/50+ tek, that uses 50/50 peat and verm... or even consider 100% verm for casing. Those choices are more forgiving if you're new to casing. I'd also use more like a 1/2" on the top casing layer (with no bottom casing layer) rather than an inch on either side. If you look, there's quite a few coir as a substrate threads, you can get the jist of what I'm getting at by comparing the tek you've got here, to those. You can simplify and even skip it all together, as rye fruits relatively well on its own, if you plan on preparing a lot of it and won't need bulk to stretch it out further.

Yep, bottom layer is wastefull of space and does nothing. Don't use it.
100% verm works about the same as 50/50. Verm is more forgiving in some ways (conatms) while 50/50 is more forgiving in others (easier to get a good pinset). So YMMV.

I went to 3 feed stores today not one of them even knew what i meant when asking for rye berries... They all wanted to know what they were and frankly i don't have the slightest clue. Could it be called something else possibly? And outside of growing mushrooms what else is it used for so i don't look retarded asking for something i don't know what its used for.

it's not used as a feed for animals, at least not that i know of... it's used for feeding hippies... do you have a hippie store? one for people who only eat organic vegetarian meals? because it'll be in the grains section there... people also make rye flatbread and rye bread with it.

for the temp control i use this: http://www.thatpetplace.com/Products/KW/...0/Itemdy00.aspx
hope that link works...but i dont use a fish tank heater i just saw he has the extra sensor for inside to shut down the tank heater if it gets to hot inside n turns on if its too cold
P.S. if u look harder they r cheaper and u can find the same one but it handles 1000w

You can get his tupperware fruiting containers at the dollar store, I have the exact same ones. Make sure to duct-tape over the sides or something though.

Yeah, they don't sell "rye berries" at feed stores. That's just hippie slang for rye. Ask for rye or rye grain and they'll know what you're talking about.
Rye is the second most produced grain in the US. It's commonly used in animal feed. It should be easily found.
