Hi,

Here in front of me stands a pressure cooker :
it operates at 0,55 bar 111,7 Celcius.

Is this enough to sterilize ?

Or do i realy need a 1 bar 119,6 celcius?

For the english unit users out there:

0.55 bar = 7.9 psi
1.0 bar = 14.5 psi
111.7 C = 233 F
119.6 C = 247 F


My guess is that you will probably be fine with the lower pressure and temperatures. You might need to double your cook time. If you are using whole grain, you might need to presoak it for 12-24 hours. Anybody know for sure?

I've seen leaky cookers that prolly only get half a bar, they still worked ok.

Just do it longer. You may have to stop half way through to add more water.

um, doesn't adding more water kinda defeat the purpose?
just a thought, but isn't your level of sterility equal to your least sterile item (mainly the freshly added water)?
