For those of you who may be considering experimenting with compost, and would like to add worm castings to the mix, you can have an indefinite supply of castings with a little money invested. You can consider vermicomposting at home.
Vermicomposting is a technique used to convert organic food waste with the use of worms. Vermicomposting is a natural process of creating compost, simply by feeding the worms your kitchen scraps. Table scraps will decompose naturally when bacteria eats away at the organic matter. It is at this point in decomposition that odors usually occur. With the presence of redworms, odors do not get a chance to develop. Your worms digest the rotted organic matter as soon as the bacteria decomposes it. The rotted matter passes through the worms system and is deposited in the form of worm castings (AKA: worm poop). These casting are rich in nutrients that are beneficial to all plant growth. The castings can be harvested out of your worm composter and spread on house plants, vegetable gardens, shrubs and flower gardens.
Not only have you saved money by making your own totally organic, all natural fertilizer, you have also decreased the amount of trash going to landfills.
You can order worms from the following places....and once you order a batch, they keep reproducing so you have more worms, That means more castings!!!
