What do I need to start my own business? I know I need money. I know I need to trademark a name. How do I go about doing it? What steps do I need to take. I googled it (not very well) but got weird responses.

Thank you. Is that all I need? I guess I could google it, but seeing as I am at work I am being lazy tonight.

Get a business license in the state of Delaware. They have better rights for business owners. Like noone can find out who actually owns it, which is good when someone is trying to sue you. You're not personally liable or if it goes bankrupt you're not facing any personal loss.

actualy im a business man let me help you out.
I have my own company (finally) and im starting another one.
first off in reponse to cowgold. the Deleware corporation is now avaliable in most states and is called an LLC, it is the legal form of incorporation i use, and does sheild you from personal liability.
what you have to understand, is that if you incorporate a business (forming an LLC or the other legal forms of orginisation, C corp, and S corp) is an entirely new legal entity, it can be sued, has a life span and can go bankrupt. but these legal forms can protect you from personal financial loss and in some cases legal loss as well.
im not sure where you are at, but there is a government office that is very helpful with these sort of things, its called the SBDC, small business development center. the people there are retired sucessful businessmen that can give you guidance in many ways to start a business.
Just google SBDC for your state, and find a local office, its all free.
i actually made an apointment with one of these offices for myself not 10 minutes ago!
if you have any other questions i would be happy to help, drop me a pm.
oh also, youre going to need a written business plan, especially if you are going to need investors/ a loan. This has to be in a specific format and is usually around 60 pages long... my last one was well over 100 pages with all of the damn apendx's

Zippoz has got it spot on. You'll probably want to begin as a sole proprietorship (remember though that YOU are 100% liable for all of your business operations, if you are sued, $$ are coming out of your pockets and nobody else's) because that is the easiest thing to do.
Ummm...check this link out

yeah technically any time you are operating a business without a filing you are working as a sole proprietorship, although if youre working with someone else it could be a partnership, your income is reported on your personal income for taxes, and you get 100% personal liablilty
the only thing that i do that way is sell cars, and when i sell those i have the bill of sale wave any rights to suing me so yeah, its all about covering your ass/liability
