mycodome fluctuating temp concern, and a question
    #5906721 - 07/27/06 08:22 PM (17 years, 6 months ago)

while getting the feel for how the heater interacts with the thermometer, the environments temp has been fluctuating.

i just noticed it was at 81 degreez for a few hours and then as i just recently adjusted i found it at 87degreez

i think ive got it right now at around 85 to 86

will my cakes survive such fluctuations? it's only been two days for the first three jars and one day for the new ones i added yesterday

any1?

they'll be fine.  stop screwing with it, and stop worrying so much.

although, i would screw with it one more time, and lower the temps a little to say around 82-84.  86 is optimal, but the interior of your jars is going to be a little warmer than the air around.  as soon as you pass 86, growth of mycelium slows, but growth of contaminates (should they find your substrate) greatly increases.  its best to be on the safe side.  little fluctuations here or there are not a problem.  but build in that safety net so a fluctuation on the high side doesn't take it too high.  your mycelium is only in real danger when you start talking over 100.

its also best to test new equipment before putting your grow in it.  might want to plan ahead for fruiting now, and get things right, rather than try getting them right when the time comes.
