What was Hezbollah thinking?

Hezbollah recently crossed the border, attacked Israeli soldiers, and kidnapped two of them. Israel ALWAYS retaliates whenever something like this happens.
I do not think that the Hezbollah attack was a mindless aggression. Hezbollah must have had a goal in mind. What was it? What was the strategy behind this incident?

As I said earlier, I'm not entirely convinced the soldiers were in Israel. Then again, I'm not entirely convinced they were in Lebanon, either. I need some good, hard proof.

Ah...so you think it was possible that the Israeli soldiers were on Hezbollah turf? That might explain the whole situation.
But, let us say for argument's say that this was a coordinated Hezbollah attack on Israeli soil. What was the strategy behind it?

Why does a little man ever try and fight a bigger man? Maybe what we dont know is that Hezbollah was losing its power and people were beginning to see the error in their thinking. Only a war with their sworn enemy could get the power back.
I dont know if thats even remotely true but ifs just one non educated guess.

I believe pretty strongly that Israel sent those soldiers into Lebanon to die. They knew it was a war they wanted, and they made it happen.

I was thinking more along the lines of strategic justifications. For example, a Hezbollah attack would immediately mean Israeli incursions into Lebanon. Was Hezbollah banking on an overwhelming Israeli response with the intention of making Israel look bad?

Maybe this was all done by the US so that we can see Isreal in action and better judge their capabilities before we decide to go and attack?

The U.S. has levied economic and diplomatic broadsides at Hezbollah....but we have never engaged in military action against them. I couldn't foresee the U.S. doing that in the current Middle Eastern climate.
