I saw that the site recommends the book Mushrooms Demystified, and I ordered it. Will it be a total waste in the northeast where I live? Thanks

dude i got that book. most of the better books are written tlking about the west. i live on the east coast (DC) and i useto live up north in NewEngland i also got the physilo. mushrooms of the world book and in both of my books the words are written in alotta places as "around here..." or "here there is...." but the mushroooms demystified book is a great book. even tho its written by a guy from the west its fine it still has mushrooms from everywhere in the world. its not a waste. its a great book and its a great book to have as a base and then you can get a book that is specilized in the north east. but as harvest said, what are you looking for???? not too many "shrooms" are up there most of the "good" stuff is out west.
but yea my mother was just up in VT and NH visiting friends from when we lived there and she came back and called me and said they are EVERY WHERE!!!!! so yea near the end of the summer my ma and i are gonna take a trip up there and go hunting for 2 days and pic up some horsepoo from a friend! and i'll also stomp around some cow fields and the horse field tooo and look around for some mushies but no youdidn't waste your $$ don't worry bout it man.

My favorite book for north east USA is called "Mushrooms of North East North America". Good book. Mushrooms Demystified is pretty much a must have too of course. It's not a waste at all as far as good info on mushrooms in general goes.

I also live in NE states and the only active shroom that I know of that grows in our area is bluefoots.i believe the they are called ps.cauterlines or something very similar.they are not a dung lover though and arefound mostly on dead tree material.they are fairly rarebut when found are abundant.so I do not really think it is worth getting a book cause all you need to know is what that one type looks like.there may be others but I have never come across them

Haha!
It's funny the way we remember things.
Psilocybe caerulipes (kay-roo-lip-ez) is the name. It's Latin for blue foot. There are other psychoactive mushrooms in the northeast.

I want to be able to hunt for mushrooms in a somewhat informed way in upstate NY, or even in Rockland Cty where I am. That's why I want to do the reading in the right text. Vermont eh? Maybe I'll go visit my uncle there. Thanks for your answers.
