A few PC Questions

I'm in the market to buy a PC, and I had a few questions. -How do I find out how many PSI it cooks at? Some of the models I looked at said the PSI, but many didn't. I only found one that says it cooks at 15psi. If it doesnt say the psi, then is there a psi that is assumed? -Will any PC do? Other than psi and size, what should I take into consideration? -Is Mirron (or something similar to mirron) a good brand? What are the good brands, other than American?

You could try checking to see if the company has a web page, many times there is good info there. Mine is a 21 or 22 quart Presto. It will hold 16 pint jars and will hit 17 - 18 psi according to the gage. Stick with 15 psi. It was around $80 at Walmart.

i have a mirror from walmart-it will hold 5 1/2 pint jars-it only goes to 10 psi- i ahve never gotten contams using brf,or birdseed- mine only holds 5 jars-i payed 20 bucks at walmart-so what i did is buy 4 of them-1 for every eye of the stove-so i can hold actually 20 jars(5 in each cooker on eaach eye)this way you copme out cheaper than buying a cooker that would hold 20 jars so i spent 80 bucks and hold 20 jars-most people spend way mor than that to get the *15 psi* and to be able to hold more jars-

Check out your local thrift shop for a $2 pc. Even if it leaks a bit and only reaches 8psi, it'll still work. I know a guy who didn't even use a pc or even boil, he was just really clean. He still had some success!

If I'm using rye grain should I throw down the extra cash for a PC that cooks at 15 psi or will a 10 psi one due? The one I'm looking at that cooks at 15 psi is a mirro and its $140, but another one nearly the same size cooks at 10 psi an is on sale for $90. And Max, I've allready checked every local thrift shop with no luck, so I've finally decided to throw down the cash to buy a new one. Also, I fruited a few tapalpa cakes a bit ago and I got two nice sized fruits. I took some pics but I dont got a digi so I gotta wait for the film to be developed, but I do have access to a scanner so I'll post some pics in a bit. Thanks for the superb spores.

From what I understand, 15 PSI is +1 atmosphere (double the normal atmospheric pressure), and is the way to go.
