Job hunting
    #5904820 - 07/27/06 10:09 AM (17 years, 6 months ago)

Well I guess it's time to get my ass off the couch and find a job. Got a couple good leads which I really hope end well. A couple of my friends that live down the street said it's going to be really hard to find a job in this college town until fall semester starts . Wish me luck, fellow Shroomerites! I'd like to be able to come back to this couch later today and smoke a victory boooooooowl!

But for now I have to head over to my buddy's house to shower. Fucking lackeys at the gas company still haven't turned my gas on, so no warm water for now. This is getting to be a pain in the ass, having to leave just to shower. Ah well, hopefully it'll be done with by the end of the week.

I've never worked fast food and I never intend to. If it was the last job available here I still wouldn't take it.

I've been out of work since February, also in a college town...

I said that same thing once, but I dropped off a few applications this week...

If you get to a low enough point, you'd be surprised where you apply to...

Go for low-end retail, it's better than food service.

Food service means proximity to warm muggy kitchens... retail tends to mean hanging around in a cool air-conditioned shop doing inexausting work.

I'm trying to get a job at the local Blockbuster. Simple work, store is kept cold, and no hard work.

I'll probably end up getting a job at Sears, again. But it's easy work, easy money. Just clock in, brave the BS, clock out, collect money, go home.

I'd actually prefer some hard work... I'm getting a little out of shape (as much as is possible for me, that is)...

I want to go back to loading skids of landscaping block into vehicles by hand

Ugh.. I really don’t mind working, not one bit, I mean I have been part of programs where I had to do insane labor (Industrial steel work) of which I did not get paid one fuckin cent (school program) and this place was 1.5 hours away, I also had to spend my own money on the fare to get there. So I don’t care about work, its actually finding a job and going for interviews I dread...

Also as of late I had found that a lot of places require photoID now and WILL NOT hire you unless you have it, and due to the way my life played out, I do not own photo ID. So I went out to get some and these fools say I need some other sort of ID in order to get the photo ID. So I went out to get this other piece of ID and they sent me back to the building I was just at saying I need photo ID... Soooo Im just going to loaf around for the summer, their loss, no taxs from me.

I used to think of hard work as a chance to get a work out and earn money...

then I spent a day outside in humid triple-digit heat and moved over 4,500 pounds of batteries by hand.

The thought has never occurred to me again.

to go against the general opinion, fast food is really really fucking fun. there's barely a day that goes by that id on't have fun.. unless, i'm in the kitchen alone during rush hour, and that happens sometimes. other than that, it's a fun environment. the money sucks but if you have nothing else....

it's nto as bad as you may think. you'll probably be turning in a lot of days at 12am-1am though. be ready to work away many 'a good afternoons.

The only thing that I might not like about fast food places is that there are so many people crammed in a small environment.
Seems like it would be hard for me to relax with all of those people around.
The food prep work itself and service doesn't really seem that bad.

I guess I'd only be able to do it if I was a manager. But even then all it entails is looking after teens and making sure they don't fuck up.
