Just wondering if anyone knew of a certain shelf life for Salvia... I've got quite a lot, and doubt I will use it all in the next 12+ months.
Erowid doesn't say much, but many websites talk about freezing extract... I wonder why, since it has no water.. hence no freezing... but maybe I'm not understanding the concept

kept dry in dark - life should be infinite salvinorin is waxy and crystalline, with a pretty high melting temp - not likely to react with anything at all in a dry dark area for hundreds of years.

I ask myself the same thing.
I met this guy at school who told me his supplier labels every product with date of harvest/concoction, and an expiration date that reads "none". His supplier is from Oaxaca, México and seems to know his business, he states the spices will survive as long as they are kept from light in a dry, cool, place.
My friend showed me how he keeps his extracts and dried leaves. Basically he keeps the extracts in amber vials to protect them from the light and then he ziplocks them and stores them in a cigar box with equally packaged mercury. He has a set of 2 vials stored in a zippo box on a shelve for easy access to a couple grams; and a last vial, which is the one he is currently using, in a golden box stored alongside "Copal" resin, which he burns in his rituals.
The jar is an Apothecary Jar from Miron Glas, sometimes marketed with other names and stickers on it, he went for the cheapest distributor of this Swiss brand he could find, the jar blocks visible light and lets through ultra violet and infra red light.. it kills bacteria but DOES NOT degrade the spices.
The pictures are pretty much self explanatory.
He is considering storing the spices in a different cigar box, in case mercury gasses could escape the vials and get into the spice vials, but that is truly silly.
He thinks of himself as an alchemist.

No death, no doom, no anguish can arouse the surpassing despair which flows from a loss of identity. Merging with nothingness is peaceful oblivion; but to be aware of existence and yet to know that one is no longer a definite being distinguished from other beings – that one no longer has a self – that is the nameless summit of agony and dread." - “Through the Gates”, H.P. Lovecraft.
