I tried about 3 years ago to grow some mushrooms and had a huge faliure. I recived a syringe from a friend around that time and used a portion of it for a few jars . I just decided to start getting into this again and i decided to go buy i pressure cooker and do it right this time. I am about to order a few syringes, but i wanted to get started as soon as possible. So I used the 3 or so years old spores on 3 jars. I used about 7cc of inoculant in 3 jars and i am getting spots of growth in 2 of the jars. I am wondering if anyone knows if these mushrooms will be any good. Is there a possibility they will be bad cause they are so old. I am excited to get this started again and i am glad there is so much more help now. Thanks to the Shroomery.
who should i order spores from and what kind should i get to start out?

That's great that you've got some growth out of syringes so old. From what I understand they shouldn't have survived that long. If they make it to 100% colonization then I'm sure they will fruit ok. I'm new to this too. I started with B+. Acadian Coast, and Ecuador. The B+ is kicking ass while the other two haven't been so impressive, so I say start with those if you want something easy. Let us know how the old spores turn out, it'd be interesting to see how long a syringe can last.

This is a pic one of my jars on day 7. Does this jar look like it was inoculated by a 3 year old syringe?

I don't know what an inoculation by a three year old syringe is supposed to look like, but that looks really good! Your shrooms should be fine. What substrate are you using?

I've had experiences with two vendors, I'll just mention that Ralphster44 did an excellent job. Very generous guy. The other vendor wasn't good.
Where did you get the plastic lid?

I go the plastic lids at Fred Meyers. You can probably get them at any major grocery store. Here is a pic of the box.

I've seen syringes last that long before no problem.
If you have healthy mycellium, you should get healthy mushrooms providing the spores came from a good source to begin with.
If you are ordering, I suggest B+. Very popular and reliable strain.

Just put the jars in a make shift incubator at aroun 78-81 degrees with a heat pad. I only have 3 jars going though. The growth has started to rapidly increase
