Cut out the cheese. Lactose is sugar. Plus it doesn't add all that much too the taste. Lots of meat and veggies, no cheese, no extra oils like mayo.
Edit: Also avoid anything sweet, like the meatball sauce, teriyaki, etc.

I don't eat mayo...or any sauce for that matter. Unless it's included in the mix, for example...tuna. I've been eating the tuna sandwiches with nothing but tuna and pickles.
I've lost 10 pounds since I posted this.

Good for you. You still getting a good mix of all the vitamins and minerals you need from other sources?

i've lost 30 pounds in the last 6 weeks. i put myself on a 1400 - 1500 calorie diet. i dont really care what i eat, but when i get to 1400 - 1500 calories, i stop. it only takes a few days of being hungry at night until you start looking for low calorie foods just so that you can eat more during the day. kinda like a natural food regulator.
yesterday i got a new pair of pants that were 2 sizes smaller than the pair i was wearing before. it was awesome. i got the pants at a poitn where i was feeling particularly weak and it really made a difference in my willingless to continue.
i'm not going to lie, i have 'cheated' many times... like eating dinner at my grandmother's house, but i just start the next day like it is the first and not dwell on it.
i would say that at the beginning, just decide how many calories you want to intake during the day and try to stick to that number. let me give you an example. a few weeks ago i ate dinner at longhorn steakhouse and had a 12oz steak. it was amazingly delicious. a fillet is about 60 calories per ounce so that steak cost me 720 calories from the 1400. i got it a la carte because i knew if i got sides, i would eat them. but after eating the 12oz steak, i was stuffed. and basically that meal cost me half my calories for my day. for breakfast i usually have a banana and a nutrigrain bar. cost of banana is 110 cal and cost of nutrigrain bar is 160 cal. for lunch i might have a grilled chicken sandwich from any fast food restaurant which averages about 330 cals. also, sometime between lunch and dinner i usually get a craving. what i have started eating are nature valley crunchy granola bars. that are awesome. and the cost 160 calories. so for recap on a day when i ate out twice and stayed full all day:
breakfast: banana and blueberry (or raspberry) nutrigrain bar --- 260 lunch: grilled chicken sandwhich ------------------------------------- 330 snack: crunchy granola bar (2 per pack which is one serving ----- 160 dinner: a 12oz delicious steak from longhorn steakhouse --------- 720
total: ---------------------------------------------------------- 1470
that is a day of great food and eating plenty. i know i could be eating waaaay healthier, but for right now i dont care. once i get down to my target weight i will start to increase my daily caloric value until i find out exactly how many calories it takes to maintain that weight. then i can start to flesh out eating much healthier. one goal at a time, i guess.

way too much. i am making a log of the whole experience. i will post it when i finish get to my target weight of 200lbs. 200lbs sounds like alot to some folks, but i am 6'4" with a fair amount of muscle.
i imaging i have lost more body fat than actual weight. i have started climbing the stairs at work instead of taking the elevator. also been doing some light weights, but nothing to the level i was at a decade ago when i was a power lifter.
edit: spelin misteaks

automan: are you exercising?? just dropping how much you eat isnt that important on overall health if you dont excersise. but im sure you got it all figured, just remind people to eat good and get exersise or else they will just gain teh weight back after the diet stops (generally)

It's really not THAT much better for you than other fast food. I mean if you're getting a club with doulbe the cheese, thats like, 8 pieces of cheese? Plus 12" of the bread is already 420 calories alone. They have people fooled so bad. BUT IT SAYS ITS HEALTHY ON TEH TV!!!!! I always laugh when I hear people are on the "subway diet" then order a sub with extra mayo, extra cheese, add bacon, etc.

alright lets take a look at the big picture
i'm not fat so i dont worry about fucking calories
take wendys, i go there and i get 2 crispy chickens and 2 double stacks
imagine all the shit put into the meat and all the grease it contains
now look at taco bell, mcds, and bk all that shit contains so much grease
oh wow 12'' of bread who fucking cares, cheese isnt bad, and the meat is turkey
and to top it off, tons of lettuce tomatoes onions olives peppers which are all good for you
tell me what ud rather eat, theres a reason you feel good after eating subway because its better than half the processed shit thats out there
so yea, it is THAT much better for you and for "subway is healthy", what is it BAD for you? more than half the sandwich if fuckin vegetables

If you look at it that way, then yes...subway is healthy.
With that same logic, Subway is also healthier than a dog turd.
Who says you have to eat at either fastfood location A or fastfood location B.
Make your own food you fat bastards and maybe you can loose weight and save the ten bucks on the subs a day. (Not directed to you tuna)

I agree with you there, Tuna. It's DEFINATELY worth it if you know a friend who works there. My buddy can either give me half off or just a free one...but I try not to wear out my welcome.
