lizards
    #5903053 - 07/26/06 09:01 PM (17 years, 8 months ago)

i've always wanted a lizard, but i haven't ever had the place for one.  ive got space now, and i'm getting interested in it.  the only ones that ive seen kept as pets have been iguanas.  they're cool, but i always like to have something different than most people.

what other lizards are good for pets?  i know some of them, like chameleons, are really hard to keep as pets.  which sucks, cuz id like to get stoned and watch one change colors.

i know nothing about this subhect, so all advice is welcome.

I think I've seen geckos and stuff like that in pet stores before. A bunch of other types of exotic looking lizards that looked neat but that I'm not very familiar with.

I had a couple of Chinese Water Dragons for awhile, and I can say from working at a reptile store when i was 17, that the Water Dragons are way, way, way easier and cleaner to take care of then say an Iguana. They will sit on your hat or shoulder just like an iguana would, and they dont shit nasty looking egg yolk looking shit like an Iguana would. If you want something thats pretty active, and original, get a Water Dragon.

They also eat anything from crickets, to baby mice and can run on water, which is cool to watch

yeah, but can they be kept in captivity? i like the black and orange one, what kind is that? what is the blue/yellow?

those water dragons seem like a good possibility too.

One thing i should add is that you dont want to hold them when you take acid. they will absorb it through your skin and into theirs and being quite honest, i thought my water dragon Leary, was gonna die. Leary turned out to be ok after that, but he turned black for hours, and i learned a valuable lesson in herpetology

I have no idea if they can be kept.. seems like if you can take care of one lizard you can take care of them all. Of course some might be adjusted to certain conditions that it might be difficult to reproduce. It probably varies between each individual lizard.

I think more of a problem would be finding them in stores, since they are probably either exotic, rare, or expensive.

Anyway the second blue/yellow one is "Eastern Collared Lizard"

I can't seem to find out what kind the black/orange one is.

Most people don't realize that green iguanas can reach up to 7 feet long (for males.) My roommate and I are using her old iguana set up as a fruiting chamber...

She tells me that if you have the equipment, chameleons really aren't too hard to keep. You just have to keep the heat/humidity levels right.

dude thats just fucking sick and disguesting using a dead iguana for a fruiting chamber....

but on another topic....i had a collard lizard once they are really cool, you set them on your carpet and they will run around on there back to feet its pretty coool....but you have to dust the crickets you feed them so they get enough calcium and also they need lots of good lighting to abosrb nutrients right......if you don't they will die like mine :frown:
