Hows the weather in NW Pennsylvania about now?
    #5902624 - 07/26/06 06:39 PM (17 years, 6 months ago)

I will be doing a little bit of camping(well actually a cabin) this coming weekend over in the NW area of Pennsylvania.

Not sure the exact locale, but somewhere by the Allegheny River.

I am wondering if anything active is in season right now for that area?

July is a great month for edibles in this part of the country, but not so good for actives. P. caerulipes is hibernating, and Pan subbs are rare in the mid summer heat. There is an outside chance you may find some Gymnopilus spectabilis, but it's a little early yet. Chanterelles and boletes are out in force though. Good luck!

After talking with falcon in may, I was under the impression that he was finding them almost year round

All my patches have dried up. My last good haul was in mid June. a few weeks ago I collected about fifteen specimens from the patch of thousands, but last week I check and didn't find even one. There may be a rare fruit pop up here and there, but for the most part P. caerulipes season is over.

It was good while it lasted though, so I am sure there are no complaints...

No complaints here.

I suspect after a few cool nights toward the end of August they will be back, proving falcon's statement true; "They fruit every month of the year."

The weather here has been amazing!

I bet you would have a field day walking through the woods with me...

Thanks for the heads up.

I'll keep an eye out for Gymnopilus.

The area im going to is at the bottom of where the mountains start? At least thats what im told anyway. So it's supposed to be a fair bit cooler.

Being a small niche of PA, i just thought i would ask
