How much colonized compost is needed to spawn new compost?
    #5902289 - 07/26/06 04:04 PM (17 years, 6 months ago)

Hi. I was wondering if the same 1:4 ratio should be used if trying to spawn colonized poo (colonized from grain) to more poo. Also, i was wondering if there was any particular method for this besides just mixing it in. Thanks!  :1up:

And open up my eyes, so i can see things as you do

1:4 should work fine.
No particular way, just mixed in evenly.

Alrighty... cool, i aimed for 1:4, but i may have done like a 1:5 or 1:6, i donno, it was a lot mixed with a lot more spread between a loot of smaller containers... so i donno how evenly it got distributed. Although they all have chunks of rhizomorphic pieces in them, no growth yet, but its early... How long should i go w/o sign of spreading colonization before i sign it off as a failure?  :mushroom2: :sun:

Manure/compost should be spawned and fruited, not used to expand the mycelium any further.

Sounds good, i wont try it again. Are breadpans already mixed like that a waste, or will it just take longer to colonize?

It is NOT something, I would do.

Flip side is, I have read some commercial edible growers, do it, referred to as super-spawning.

Yeah I spawned poo to poo before, and it worked but it didn't work good. I only got like 6-10 fruits per flush.

The problem is by the time you get that all grown out the myc will be "over the hill".
