Found under oak and pine trees in pine straw. Stem was purple to white at the base of the cap, the cap was not gilled. Pores and not sure on spore print but i dont realy think its necessary for this one? Was just curious..

We don't really need a spore print color on most boletes.
If you scratch the pore surface, does it change color? If so, what color(s)?
Try tasting a tiny piece off the edge of the cap. Is it bitter?
What color do the pores become in age?
Happy mushrooming!

I found some that looked just like that yesterday; they bruised a reddish brown. I'll get pics up here in a little bit. They are beautiful shrooms, but every purple bolete I've encountered has been bitter.

Yup! looks like Boletus edulis, although it isn't very big, and I don't recall B. edulis being any shade of purple... It does have that classic edulis shape, however, and the pores are olive colored (as they should be for said species).

Might I add, that after tasting, one should spit the piece of mushroom out. You know well ToxicMan, but for a new hunter, it does not go without saying, that if you intend to taste a mushroom, plan on spitting it out unless you are positive of the species ID. Failure to do so, could cause unnecessary poisoning.

Unnecessary in the sense that it could be easily avoided, as they do not wish to be sick. Unlike some folk who insist on eating random mushrooms -it is obviously necessary that they be poisoned before they learn their folly.

Never intended on tasting or eating, it was found while I was working and thought it was very nice looking. The shading of purple faded as it got to the top but great looking fungi, thanks for all the responses.

Given your area of the country, there are several species it could be. Most of them are known edibles, a few are not.

Dry. Humid. Hot. We are still in dog days. I am going to Florida let's see the rain. I want to find the Old Man of the Woods Bolete. if you ever see this, save it for me.

Or better yet, I'll take me some Porcini's, King Boletus!!

I've had them, A fitting name.
