making your own 5htp
    #5899284 - 07/25/06 07:18 PM (17 years, 6 months ago)

So I have some Griffonia simplicifolia plants and have had them for some time. Ive been curious about how to extract 5htp from this plant, what parts of the plants contains 5htp and in which concentrations it is present. Ive so far only heard 5htp is present in the seeds, is this correct?

Griffonia Seed comes from the beans of a vine native to Africa. In African folk medicine, Griffonia Seed is reputed to be an aphrodisiac, as well as an antibiotic and a remedy for diarrhea, vomiting, and stomachache. Recent research suggests that Griffonia Seed raises serotonin levels in the brain. Serotonin is important in regulating brain chemistry and is especially important in problems such as depression, insomnia, and eating disorders. Theoretically, supplementing with Griffonia Seed can raise serotonin levels and provide relief from depression and insomnia. Griffonia Seed should also regulate appetite through the increase in serotonin, leading to weight reduction in obese persons, while helping normalize the weight of people suffering from anorexia nervosa. Griffonia Seed has also been used in treating fibromyalgia and chronic headaches in order to reduce pain.

Also
Traditional African uses for Griffonia include the utilization of the stem and roots as chewing sticks, leaves for wound healing, and leaf juice for the treatment of bladder and kidney ailments. Today, the seed of this climbing shrub is used in the treatment of fibromyalgia, headaches, insomnia, depression and stomach problems. The active constituents are 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) and lectin I-b4.

I am trying to grow it to treat fibromyalgia
