Car-Less For Twelve Years

Been cycling everywhere I need to go when the distance and weather permits. Commuter rails and subways when I head into the big city but not much of that out here.
Anyone else done the same thing?

Nope. I need a car to get around to school and work.
School is in the middle of nowhere, about 15 minutes out of town, and work is 30 miles, one town over.

yeah, it's a shame that you have to live in a big city to be able to do that. whatever happened to slef-sustaining rural communities.

Yeah, it's a felony for me to drive because I am a habitual trafic violator. I lost my license for 5 years. It's been 3 1/2. I have a little 49.5 cc scooter that I drive around. I took the governor off so that it will do 50 mph. Don't tell the fuzz!!

Nope, even the HOV lanes here, are mostly empty, because everyone has too have their own ride, maybe when gasoline goes too $10.00 a gallon.

Me? Not that I know of.
If I had to use a magazine as the basis for a username I do believe it would be mondo2000.

HAHAHA. I do, I do. It's just ...see, it isn't defaulted like ...say, Slashdot. And since it's not the default layout, nobody uses it. And since nobody uses it, I don't bother looking.
I HAAAAAAAAAATE UBB. Why can't there be a column in the "my posts" area that shows how many replies have been made since that post? It blows because (a) clicking on every single thread I've commented in to see if someone replied is stupid and (b) replies to posts I've long since forgotten go unreplied-to.
So ...sorry about that.

I dont drive either. I am an avid cyclist and ride the el, buses, or taxes when necessary. mostly I ride my bike. this is pretty common where I live - you dont need a car. in fact, having a car is a huge burden.

I am primarily a bicycle commuter, although for the last two weeks I have been having somewhat of a relapse. Since I do own a car, (a shitty ass old saturn i got for free) I seem to end up driving around 40 or 50 times a year. Right now I am on empty though, so I'll probably be parking it for awhile. It is kinda nice to have though, as I really only hate riding in july, and the super cold days in janurary and february.

yeah singles are pretty dandy, but alas none of my rides (except my bmx) are set up that way anymore. I used to have both a singlespeed mtb and fixed gear rode bike, but opted for the nexus inter8 hub on both rides. Has the look and maintainability of a single, with 8 times the speeds.

I could get to any place that I need to on foot pretty much(as far as making a living/surviving goes). There are plenty of jobs within walking distance from me, tons of stores, etc. I still end up driving most of the time though. There are better places to work and shop than the close things. If I had to, I could survive with no car, but I like them.

I drive because my job requires shuttling homeless people around to access community resources however when circumstances converge in such a manner as to eliminate the need it is back to the bicycle full time. I commend anyone who forgoes use of an automobile as the environmental and often overlooked sociological impacts are severe.

I've never owned a car, and never even got my license (well...got my beginners when I was 16, but I just let it expire without taking a road test).
I bike, walk, bus, or carpool everywhere that I need to go!
Not only do you save on car payments, insurance payments, fuel payments, ect, ect, ect....but you get some damn good exercise in the process! I definitely hold the amount of walking/biking that I do responsible for keeping me in as good of shape as I am (which isn't the greatest...but I can walk for miles no problem!).
Especially seeing as how my life is otherwise quite sedentary
