A Walk In My Back Yard
    #5898764 - 07/25/06 04:22 PM (17 years, 6 months ago)

Here are a few pics from some nice specimins in my back yard in Central Florida. I dont really expect an ID but i figured i share the pics.

This one was breathtaking, im happy the pic came out so well. Never seen this species before today.

Found this beauty all alone.

This is a beautifull pair.

The first one resembles the gilled Bolete, Phylloporus rhodoxanthus.
The purple ones are very nice looking. Great pics! I have somewhat of an idea of what they might be, if you are looking for an ID on it, a spore print will help be more sure.
Possible Russula on the reddish looking one.
You also have what looks like some Lactarius species in some of your pics. The blue one for example is very likely a Lactarius.

you got some beauties there.. the first pic appears to be a Jack-O-lantern (omphalotus Illudens, but I coud be wrong... and the second could be either a Lilac Fairy Helmet (Mycena pura), a Heliotrope Webcap (Cortinarius heliotropicus) *most likely in my opinion* or a Violet Webcap (Cortinarius violaceus) *stem does not appear to be purple enough but still a possibility*.. I am still very new with I.D.ing mushrooms so please take my I.D.s with a grain of salt and feel free to correct me if I am wrong (mods *hint*hint*)

{*edit* on second thought that first pic does resemble a gilled bolete.. *A choice edible as opposed to the jack-o-lantern which is toxic*

Here are a few more, i found an entire family of the purple ones, but i left them be so no sopre prints. Same fore the rest of the specimins, i just let them grow as they are.

This was a VERY small mushroom

God i love Florida sometimes, The heat is shit, but there is beauty everywhere! And no worries on ID's, there was no tab for just "finds" i just wanted to share with the community.

Jack-O-Lanterns usually are much more orange...

I wasn't really thinking of Cortinarius or Mycena as a possibility for the pinkish purple ones.
To the thread starter: do they have any kind of noticeable or strong smell? I'm 90% positive that they are the same thing that I find around here.

Well I find the same mushrooms, I'm pretty sure.. Identified the ones I found down to exact species. The ones that I was finding had a petty bad smell to most of em.

Also, regarding the blue Lactarius they aren't active if you were wondering.

Those are some absolutely stunning photos. That purple one - wow! I agree with Eris that the bluish ones look like a lactarius. Amazing though, thanks for posting.

Yea, the second pic in the first post is my abslute favorite. Im really happy that shot came out so well, but i also took like 9 pictrues of it but most were shaky. hehe, very odd species, just noteced them out of the corner of my eye, waayy back in some young florida woods. It was quite damp under the leaves so the shrooms are every where, i want to go hunting for cubes, but im not sure about tonight. :crazy2:
