wait wait. dont order rye online, the shipping will probably be as much as the grain. mst whole food markets and natural groceries carry rye for like 50pennies per pound.

Well i get all my Rye from the CO-OP here in my town. it comes in 65 Lbs bags (no not 50 lbs i know that odd for feed bags) but any way its $11 for 65 pounds and it works great just check all the C0-OP ,Feed Lots , Farm Supply shops just make sure you get rye grain and not rye grass seed if thy don't have it most places will order it if you will prepay and get 3-4 bags, if thy ask you what you want it for just do what i do tell them you are making rye whiskey

wow, that's expensive. I paid 8 dollars for 25 lbs from a feed store. Alot of times the feed stores call rye berrie "winter rye."

Yeah I called every feed store in a 25 mile radius and all of them were sold out for the year. They all had rye grass but no rye grain. As a last resort I hit up Whole Foods.

Feed store by be sells for 50 lbs for $2.50 for winter rye, kinda expensive if you ask me
If you need it send me a PM, a USPS Flate rate box can hold what about 20 LBS of rye?

I'm not sure if this is just in my area or not (Outside Houston), but here "Winter Rye" is just rye grass seed that is spread in the winter, not the whole grain rye wanted.
I live out in the country and there are numerous feed stores around. Every one that I went to and asked for "winter rye" pointed me to a bag of rye grass seed. Sometimes the bag would even be labeled "Winter Rye", but it was still just the grass seed. When I would ask for any whole grain rye, they all just looked at me kind of strange.
I never found any whole grain rye in feed stores around my area and the one health food store that carried rye was too expensive, so I use WBS.
Just a warning to anyone buying "Winter Rye" from a feed store, open the bag and make sure it's whole grain and not grass seed!
Check out this post by Anno for a great pic showing the difference between rye grain and grass seed.
