When mixing casing??
    #5896197 - 07/24/06 10:29 PM (17 years, 6 months ago)

Hi - When mixing casing:

• 10 units peat
• 10 units vermiculite
• 1 unit calcium sulfate (gypsum)
• 1 unit calcium carbonate (chalk)

1) Mix peat, gypsum, chalk dry and add water and make sure there's proper ph & mositure content.

2) Then add vermiculite.

My question is: do you have to readjust the moisture content after adding the vermiculite? Do you have to add water at the end? I would say yes - but I just wanted to double check.

Thanks
Shaq

yeah.. what you can do is adjust moisture seperately and mix them together.

IE, adjust moisture of peat mix in one container, adjust moisture of verm in another, then mix together... that's what I do

Yeah, like I've said before, I'm a genius with huge nads. Abnormally huge, like... bordering on elephantitis, but it's all nad, and no tumor.

Take it or leave it!

Next time, I need to make my mix a little drier and mist later. I found that my peat was too difficult to spread evenly and finely when it was wet and clumpy.

My oven bags seemed to have gotten extra water in them during pasturization.

I like to mix the dry ingredients first. Once they're wet they start to clump and it's harder to mix.
