I am doing pf tek for the first time. I was wondering how many 1/2 pint cakes are you guys fitting in your 10 gallon fish tanks. I am using a drip shield, but this only allows me to place about 5 cakes along the back of the tank. Would I be better off using perite than using shield?

You'll want to have at the very least 3" between each cake. You don't want them to get too crowded, even though they will tolerate this. Judging from the looks of the Hydra-Pod (tm), you can pack them pretty close together, but there is a possibility that your mushrooms won't reach their full potential (as in size and quantity.) Perlite would definately be the way to go, if you need to fit more jars in there... The drip shield is a very effective humidification method, but it does cut down on the number of cakes you can fruit in a given area. Peace, EstaesPACO "I'm just a squirrel trying to catch a nut"

well.......depending on the size of your terr. (i know you said 10 gallon, but i am not exactly sure of the dimensions of it) you could angle your drip sheild so that it doesnt touch the ground. make it so it goes from the top of one side to the middle of the other. as far as how many cakes to do, use your 1/2 pint jars and place them around the terr. grow that many cakes plus....i would say 4 (or however many you expect to lose to contams).

i would pack them as tight as i could-side by side-cram the fukers in-and then i would add 50/50+ to the top- you will be VERY HAPPY for your first time make sure sides are not clear! but as far as cakes go-mine never would grow right-deformed shrooms-short shrooms tall shrooms-so it was hard to say how much space 1 cake was going to need- thats why casing is so cool- almost natural- well almost
