Lebanese christians thank Israel
    #5889925 - 07/23/06 08:45 AM (17 years, 6 months ago)

Israelis obviously aren't the only ones out to destroy Hezbollah! Lebanese Christians (about 50% of the population, I think) are offering to join the IDF to fight against Hezbollah!

Could be ... an unbeatable combination. Any other volunteers?

"THANK YOU, ISRAEL!" -- Exiled Lebanese Christians Speak Out From The Diaspora
Iconoclast ^ | By Brigitte Gabriel

Posted on 07/18/2006 5:36:48 PM PDT by Apolitical

"Thank you Israel," is the sentiment echoing from around the world from the millions of Christian Lebanese, driven out of our homeland. The Lebanese Foundation for Peace, an international group of Lebanese Christians, made the following statement in a press release to Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert concerning the latest Israeli attacks against Hezbollah:

"We urge you to hit them hard and destroy their terror infrastructure. It is not [only] Israel who is fed up with this situation, but the majority of the silent Lebanese in Lebanon who are fed up with Hezbollah and are powerless to do anything out of fear of terror retaliation....."

From Lebanese Canadians, a thank you to Stephen Harper

Published: Thursday, July 20, 2006
What follows is a statement released jointly by six Canadian Lebanese organizations on Wednesday.

- - -

We, the undersigned, representatives of the six Lebanese organizations listed below, extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Canadian government, represented by Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Minister of Foreign Affairs Peter MacKay, for the correct, just and prompt positions they have taken with regard to Lebanon and the unfortunate military confrontations that are occurring on its soil as a result of the reckless hostile actions of Hezbollah. Those actions violate the will of the Lebanese people and the decisions and authority of the legitimate government of Lebanon.

The actions and conduct of Hezbollah are extremely harmful to the interests of Lebanon and the Lebanese people, and obstruct progress of the peace process in Lebanon specifically, and in the Middle East in general.

We also thank the government for its wise and effective efforts with respect to its handling of all measures for the evacuation of Canadian citizens from Lebanon, the safeguarding of their security, and their safe return to Canada.

We call on the Canadian government to continue its interventions through the United Nations and the Security Council to secure an immediate truce in Lebanon based on UN Resolution 1559, which explicitly calls for the disarmament of all Lebanese and non-Lebanese militias, the deployment of the Lebanese army along the border with Israel, and the extension of the authority of the Lebanese government over all Lebanese territory.

Signatories: Elias Bejjani, Lebanese Canadian Coordinating Council (LCCC); Toni Mouanis, Canadian Lebanese Human Rights Federation (CLHRF); Noel Haddad, Phoenician Club of Mississauga (PCOM); Khalil Kaekati, Canadian Phoenician Community Services Club (CPCSC); Charbel Constantine, Canadian Lebanese Christian Heritage Club (CLCHC); Colonel Charbel Barakat, World Lebanese Cultural Union (WLCU)-Canadian Chapter.

Thank You Israel - By Brigitte Gabriel

For the millions of Christian Lebanese, driven out of our homeland, "Thank you Israel," is the sentiment echoing from around the world.

It is not [only] Israel who is fed up with this situation, but the majority of the silent Lebanese in Lebanon who are fed up with Hezbollah and are powerless to do anything out of fear of terror retaliation."

Their statement continues, "On behalf of thousands of Lebanese, we ask you to open the doors of Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion Airport to thousands of volunteers in the Diaspora willing to bear arms and liberate their homeland from [Islamic] fundamentalism.

We ask you for support, facilitation and logistics in order to win this struggle and achieve together the same objectives: Peace and Security for Lebanon and Israel and our future generations to come."

The once dominate Lebanese Christians responsible for giving the world "the Paris of the Middle East" as Lebanon used to be known, have been killed, massacred, driven out of their homes and scattered around the world as radical Islam declared its holy war in the 70s and took hold of the country.

They voice an opinion that they and Israel have learned from personal experience, which is now belatedly being discovered by the rest of the world.....

Yea right. It reminds me of all the Iraqi's in exile that told the CIA all about Saddam's WMD programs. . .It's just more of the 'three great religions' battling it out over who has the most hatred. They all have the same 'god' who brags in the bible that, "for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation" Deuteronomy 5:9

Funny thing - the Lebanese Christians I know say things more along the line of "Oh, they will pay" and "The things you do come back on you a hundred fold". Rather than happy, I'd characterize their emotional state as extremely unhappy, distressed, worried, and angry with Israel.

Redstorm-
For political reasons, there's no census in Lebanon - a usual figure is 40% Christian, but that could easily be +/- 10% - you can check the CIA world factbook, of course.

I was addressing the fact that he was implying that a large portion of Lebanese Christians are willing to fight for the IDF.

Lebanon is united as a country against the attacks. This is their 9-11.

Do try to keep in mind that this is a political forum. therefore, intolerant quips at the expense of religious groups are in poor taste.
