Didn't your mother ever tell you to be patient?
    #5894949 - 07/24/06 05:06 PM (17 years, 6 months ago)

Well mine did too but easier said than done. Everytime I am just fixated by growth. I have considered getting some type of magnification system for newly inoculated substate. When growth is visable I outline it with a sharpie so I can notice a diffence when I check it again in 12 hours (ok I admit 4 hours).
When people post asking about slow progress ect we tell them to be patient but would some of you share your secrets!?!?!
The top things I do is.
1. Work
2. Hunt for mushrooms (even when I know there not in season I scavange the woods)
3. Record progress ect (Damn its been forev.... well 20 hours....)
4. Bug mods and people on #cultivaiton
5. Hold jars closely (...hmmm my preciouses...)

What do you do? or do you just not care that much anymore?

I have other projects/things that keep me busy. Also the novelty has worn off enough over the years where I know now when to expect what I'm look forward to and find noticeable changes much more rewarding than minute changes. I still get excited everytime I start a culture or experimenting with a new tek and the progress I see even after 25+years of doing this!

haha i used to be the same way at first, its exciting really even if a "normal" person would think you're nuts for getting your jollies from watching fungus grow in a jar, its a little similar to paint drying...

but yeah, once you go through a few grows it wears off some, and having several things in progress at various stages mixes it up.

other than that you can spend plenty of that waiting time learning, and sharing what you've learned with others... but try not to get too hooked and keep perspective... i've had some odd revelations while tripping from becoming a little too mentally fixated on the fact i've eaten my babies   its easy to be patient and time really flies for me with so many other hobbies (*gasp*)... between spending lots of time with my girl (who does get jealous sometimes that i like mushrooms better than her, but she shuts her trap when it comes tea time), of course there's the adventures you can enjoying said friuts (nothin beats camping out under the stars... exploring gorges.. frolicing in nature haha)... i play in a band, sculpt, paint pictures, i'm even a published author (but unfortunately gotta keep my anonymity here!)... a lot of creativity flows in part i think to the messed up things i've done to my brain over the years so perhaps its all interrelated

and yeah, there's always the dirty "w" word where i have to pretend i'm a normal member of society for 40 hours a week... gotta pay the bills like electricity and such to keep the A/C running so the mushies stay comfortable...

Cream's right, on my first grow I found myself as anxious and excited as you, and when I finally ate my harvest, it was a pretty powerful trip... All I saw in my head, for about 2-3 hours, (but what felt like seriously a few days!) were my little mushroom cakes growing from pins, to giant open caps, growing, growing, growing... Was kind of cool, but I did kind of freak out, as it got extremely monotonous, and I couldn't sleep, just laid there.

haha and rule #1

never trip around your grow.  preferably, not even in the same building.  trust me - resist the urge to look at it!

if you think newbies get paranoid about contams easy, just think how easy it is to freak out when everything is the wrong color and moving around...

Wow! perhaps thats better than a dingo.

I don't want to give people the wrong idea I'm not a freak I've only fallen asleep next to them once and I don't sing them lullabys any more.

This isn't my first grow but my first in a few years, but even before I didn't notice my anticipation diminish from grow to grow. This time I am going to work at staggering my grows so something is always close to fruiting.
I've never looked at mushrooms during... I wonder if they will grow and wiggle like hair does.

i try to distract myself by pooping my pants then masturbating in a puddle of my own feces...

JUST KIDDING, it's actually not a puddle, more of a pile usually.

The first grow is the real ball-breaker for patience. That's what I'm doing right now. I have 5 bags colonizing right now, all at different rates too. It's bugging the hell out of me. Since I'm jobless ATM, and will be for a while(college), I picked up some old games. I hang out with a lot of friends. Unfortunately for me I'm out of bud, so that takes away that. Normally I just play games and go hang out with friends. I try to escape the house because it makes me want to check Shroomery, which then makes me want to check my bags.

Soon enough Ill have school work and a school schedual to keep up with.
