hey guys, so two days ago here on shroomery i was looking through the grow logs and i saw this one guys who flipped over his cake in the FC cuz the fruits were growing into the substrate. then that night i woke up in the middle of my sleep to get a drink and the idea/kinda dreamy image (i was like half asleep walking to the kitchen but this idea woke me up ) of a pf tek cake, suspended in the fruiting chamber with a string going threw the cake length wise as if it was like a steam roller front wheel or something like it on an axis. so this woke me up and as i was getting a drink and falling asleep i was wondering what kind of effect growth wise and yield wise this would have on the cake. as iwas falling into sleep i started kinda having half away dreams (i don't know if anyone out there has experienced this when your extremely tired and your starting to doze off but not fully asleep and you start to dream alittle but you like fully comprehend it as its going on and you know that your fallin asleep and shitbut anyway) i was thinking about how one could go about doing this and setting this up. so as i was half dreaming my dreamyshit was a colonized cake and i had some kinda string or wire and using a large needle(it would have to be sterilized) i threaded it through the cake carefully and then hung it in my FC. then it started to "grow mushrooms" and the ones on the bottom were reaching up around the cake to grow up and effecting the growth of the side ones so i knew that wasn't working so they all disappeared and i had the cake again without mushrooms again. and i thought well if you rotated it they would be fine. but you would have to rotate it often. so i continued thinking. you could either set up lights all round the FC and a few in side under the cake (firehazzard/water and electrical stuff=dangerous) or you could make something that could constantly slowly rotate the cake. so i saw a cake on a modified spit-roaster. so i just made this pic in MSPAINT so it sucks but heres what im thinking could happen.

so you could either have the spit go through a hole in the wall of your FC and have the motor and gear out side the chamber (probably a good idea) and you could find a way to plug up the whole as best you can to prevent loss of humidity or you could try and plug it up with some good ol' vasiline just aslong as the rotation isn't inhibited. or you could have the whole thing in your grow cage but it'll be alittle space consumeing and you'll have to get the cord outta theFC anyway. and you could probably have a really long spit and have a few on it as well. you only have to make sure that it is that it doesn't rotate too fast and also that it is up far enough up from the substrate and the lid of your FC. what do you guys think??? im sure people have thought of suspending a cake to do a 360 grow but i couldn't find anything in the threads. if anyone trys this or has a link to a thread that someone has tryed a 360 grow hit me back. also, i didn't know if this belonged in the experimentation section or what but i stuck it here mods move it if you think is should be moved. -SenselessRebel

I did one of those a few years ago and posted it at topia. I don't know if it's still there or not. The problem with pf cakes is there's only so much energy available, so if you grow in 360 degrees, it looks cool, but the fruits will be smallish. Mine was in a colonized crown royal bag of manure if I remember correctly. Go for it. Anything unusual is always cool to look at. RR

i dont think rotating would be needed. Just suspend the cakes and i think if there was light comming from all directions you would be good. go for it

thats silly.
people have done things to suspend them, like stab them with chopsticks etc. they will grow in all directions... you're likely to find that yields won't be improved much. as far as light for pinning, perlite is white, and reflects light, so if you're using a perlite humidified FC plenty of light will reflect onto the underside to stimulate pinning there. some may grow straight down, others may figure it out and start curling upward. but rotating them like a rotisserie chicken probably isn't going to do much better than that
i had the same idea of 360 growing a long ways back myself. came up with an idea for a little stand that would look like this: [ ] <--- sexy cake [ ] | <--- pointy thing goes into cake, barbs stick out | to keep it from sliding down /\
i never bothered to try it. by properly DE casing or rolling your cakes, you can pretty much push them to their yield potential limits anyway without the extra gadgets and gizmos.
the whole rotation thing is a creative idea but you're way overthinking it. not to mention, cakes get kind of soggy and dont hold together so well once they've put out a flush or two, it'd be very likely to fall apart.
dont get me wrong i like the creative thinking but im gonna have to vote no on this one
