Humidity Question.

Greetings Ladies & Gents.
I spent some time searching through the forum about humidity and hygrometers, and I couldn't find anything that really helped me out, hence this post.
I've had my hygrometer (Springfield PreciseTemp w/ external sensor) running on my FC for an hour now. The FC was just now filled with 2.5 inches of soaked perlite. The perlite was placed in a colander, and ran under a sink and dunked in a pot of water simultaneously. Then it was evenly layered out on the bottom of my tub (which is 25 gal btw).
I also have a cool mist humidifier running on full blast right now.
My problem is that I have a recorded max of 54% for humidity, and it's bouncing from 54 to 28, to 52, to 30.. God only knows where it will go next.
Is my hygrometer a piece of shit? Should I get a Taylor like everyone else? If so, my question on the digital Taylor hygrometer/thermometer w/ the remote sensor, is how long the battery life on that thing is, for anyone who has it.

are you using the external sensor?
most units with an remote sensor only measure temperature remotely, and measure temp & RH at the unit itself. try putting the whole unit inside the FC and measuring.

I'll try that.. hope I don't fry it haha.
I recall reading the external sensor did both -- but lets give it a shot.
Thanks

It's been nearly two hours now.
The hygrometer is no longer using the external sensor and is in the FC. Humidity is reading 68-70% ..that's it.
Cool Mist has been running full blast and there's plenty of perlite, soaked to the bone with 1/2 " of water.
I was just told though, that the fact that my lid to tub seal is not air tight could be causing a problem.
Going to get some sealant tape here soon.

Nevermind, I'm retarded -- there is a indoors and outdoors switch on the back. I had it switch to in and it wasn't using the external sensor. Off to get some seal and a new hygrometer -- cause I just fried this one lol.
Trial and error.. yay
