i would think that there is a great risk for con tam. unless you take a nice uncontam piece of just myc(no substrate) then put it in a honey water with a little h2o2.sterile ofcorse. it might work? but dont hold me to it .it is just an idea. good luck

Outdoor mycelium is not suitable for cultivation indoors unless you learn agar skills so you can isolate away from the naturally occuring contaminants in the two dimensional space of a petri dish. RR

well i have enough nice pieces of uncontam. myc to spawn a good amount of straw. i appreciate your help but i wasnt thinking along the lines of a liquid culture. everytime ive tried the karo tek, it just wouldnt work, no signs of myc and then it usually gets a sour smell.

Give it a try if you wish, but straw usually performs poorly outdoors. You can try using it to inoculate horse manure in a shady spot outdoors. Cover with 1/2" of topsoil after burying the manure/spawn and cover with a sheet of cardboard to help hold in moisture. Water only when absolutely necessary, but don't flood it as that will slow down or stop growth. Here's a pic of an outdoor project done that way on horse manure. Redboy strain. You'll get nice, meaty fruits outdoors. RR

No. It can be obtained free by driving in your local area until you see a house with horses out back. Knock on the door holding a bag and a shovel and ask for some manure for your garden. I've never been turned down. They're glad for someone to haul it off for them, and will greet you like a hero. Look for the dry, field aged nuggets that have been out in the sun and rain for a few months. Don't get the fresh, green stuff. RR
