What a jack ass. But we do have companies doing stem cell research around the world and here in the US.
http://www.forbes.com/technology/2006/07/21/stem-cell-research-cz_kd_0721stemcell.html
I wouldnt be surprised to find out that Bush and Co. are investors in these companies and could stand to make trillions off of medications developed from stem cells.
On the other hand, perhaps its the pharmaceutical companies who pressured Bush to veto this because Stem Cell Research isnt exactly research into new medicines, but research into CURES.
One day I believe that stem cell research will cure diabetes and will be able to prolong healthy youthful life.
I just dont buy the idea that Bush vetoed this because of his strong convictions for human life.

While he is a jackass, the Feds have no business funding any medical research, other than chemical and biological warfare.

The Feds shouldn't be funding any of those things.

Especially since stem cells can be harvested from umbilical cords which are otherwise thrown out. Stem cells do not have to come from embryos.

Actually, I believe this bill is specifically dealing with embryonic stem cells, which have more potential use than adult stem cells or stem cells from umbillical chords.

sperm starts out as stem cells in your testicles. Since it doesn't involve a dead baby lets start grave robbing old mens testicles...im sure bush and american won't mind that since "dead babys" are of such concern.
dead baby's that died for nothing are being buried, well mostly burned im guessing....why not give these baby's short lives some use...make there deaths mean something
dead baby > men and women suffering from diseases OH WAIT THATS RIGHT DISEASES MEAN $$$$$$$$$$

Embryonic stem cells are the only ones that can be used for everything.
They are the only ones which can be controlled not to grow tumors so they are the only ones which could some day be used to find a cure for cancer.
Other stem cells have been programed to grow lung, heart and soft skin tissue but they have a failure rate which makes them unreliable for long term studies.
Embryos are harvested all the time and few are used. The news says that most are destroyed anyways because they go unused so why not let those go to some good use? With a health care CRISES in America, why not spend some tax payer dollars on possible cures for some of the most devastating diseases which only add to the problems?
With the price of one fighter jet, its fuel and missiles we could fund one full time lab for 5 years? I havnt done the math but Ill bet that its true.

Not even close. A single jet fighter, fully loaded, is around $20 million... this won't even cover the cost of the building, let along the lab gear and salaries. I just priced out 100g of ultra pure copper for use in bioscience at over $3000!

Im not talking about building a lab from the ground up. Although that does sound more like government thinking . Im talking using what we already have to work on the most promising discovery of the century.
$20 million could do ALOT in the private sector. If the government were to spend it we would just end up with a few hammers and toilet seats
